balsa-template-design

balsa-template-design is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from pedrobalsa/balsa-ui. It costs 88 tokens per session (1,167 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A design guide for creating polished Balsa UI templates, blocks, demos, and Vue screens. Balsa UI is a Vue component system, and Vue is a framework for building web interfaces.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when composing or refining Balsa-based pages, choosing layout and typography, and building subject-specific Vue 3 screens.
Why use it?
It helps turn an open-ended page brief into a specific visual direction and realistic interface rather than an interchangeable template.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00088 $0.01167
Opus 5 $0.00044 $0.00583
Sonnet 5 $0.00018 $0.00233
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00117

Security

Grade A, and why

balsa-template-design scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 106 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Design Distinctive Balsa Templates

Use this skill with $balsa-ui. This skill owns art direction and composition; $balsa-ui owns discovery, exact component contracts, installation, accessibility, source placement, and validation. Keep the implementation in Vue 3 <script setup lang="ts"> and preserve the active Balsa design system.

Ground the template in a subject

  • Choose one concrete subject, audience, and primary job when the brief leaves them open.
  • Build with realistic names, labels, values, states, and domain language. Keep demo content specific even when the template API remains reusable.
  • Derive visual character from the subject's real materials, tools, artifacts, environment, and vernacular. Do not substitute generic SaaS copy or invented vanity metrics.

Art-direct before coding

Create a compact internal plan before editing:

  1. Thesis — state the visual idea in one sentence.
  2. Container model — choose the page structure: open canvas, bands, rails, list, table, master-detail, editorial columns, media frame, deliberate Card system, or another model justified by the content.
  3. Typography — assign title, body, control, label, and data roles. Use the active theme's roles unless the brief explicitly calls for an authored design system.
  4. Palette and material — map hierarchy to Balsa semantic tokens and theme-owned surfaces. Reserve product-specific color for decoration that need not adapt with the palette.
  5. Density and rhythm — choose controlled density or generous space and repeat a small spacing rhythm consistently.
  6. Signature — choose one memorable, subject-specific compositional move.
  7. Restraint — name what stays quiet so the signature remains legible.

Use an ASCII wireframe when the hierarchy or container model is not obvious from the brief. If an attached reference or generated concept is the visual specification, extract this plan from it and preserve its hierarchy, density, geometry, and media treatment.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
