generate-migration

generate-migration is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from pilotspace/pilot-space. It costs 24 tokens per session (1,301 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A tool for creating Alembic migrations, which are versioned instructions for changing a database schema. It includes both the forward change and a rollback procedure, and requires administrator approval before applying it.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps add or alter tables, columns, and indexes, check existing migrations, and prepare upgrade and downgrade steps.
Why use it?
It turns described schema changes into a reversible migration while making unclear types, constraints, or nullability explicit. This reduces the risk of applying an incomplete database change.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00024 $0.01301
Opus 5 $0.00012 $0.00651
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00260
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00130

Security

Grade A, and why

generate-migration scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Generate Migration Skill

Generate a complete, reversible Alembic migration for proposed database schema changes. Always requires admin approval before the migration can be applied, as schema changes are irreversible without a rollback procedure.

Quick Start

Use this skill when:

  • User requests a new migration (/generate-migration)
  • Agent detects a schema change needed for a feature
  • User describes a new table, column, or index requirement

Example:

User: "Generate a migration to add a 'priority' column (integer) to the issues table"

AI generates:
- Alembic migration file with upgrade() and downgrade()
- upgrade(): ALTER TABLE issues ADD COLUMN priority INTEGER DEFAULT 0
- downgrade(): ALTER TABLE issues DROP COLUMN priority
- Index if cardinality warrants it

Workflow

  1. Gather Schema Context

    • Read note content for schema requirements
    • Use ask_user to clarify ambiguous column types, constraints, or nullability
    • Identify affected tables and existing column names
  2. Design Migration

    • Determine migration number by checking existing migrations (ask user for next number)
    • Write upgrade(): forward schema changes using op.add_column, op.create_table, etc.
    • Write downgrade(): exact reversal of every change in upgrade()
    • Add indexes for foreign keys and high-cardinality filter columns
  3. Validate Safety

    • All new columns must be nullable or have a server_default (zero-downtime rule)
    • No DROP TABLE or DROP COLUMN in upgrade without explicit user confirmation
    • Destructive operations (DROP, TRUNCATE) require ask_user confirmation before generating
  4. Insert to Note

    • Use insert_block to add the migration code block with file path header
    • Use write_to_note to add rollback instructions and deployment steps
    • Mark as pending_approval — admin must review before alembic upgrade head
  5. Return Approval-Required Status

    • Return status: pending_approval with required_approval_role: admin
    • Include checklist: backup, staging test, rollback command

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

generate-migration is a skill published in the GitHub repository pilotspace/pilot-space (2 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 24 tokens to every session and 1,301 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
