openmm-mcp: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/new-tool/SKILL.md

new-tool is a skill for Claude Code from QBT-Labs/openmm-mcp. It costs 0 tokens per session (331 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A project-specific recipe for adding a new MCP tool, including its source file, parameter validation, registration, pricing, documentation, and tests. MCP is a way for an agent to call external tools through a standard interface.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for implementing tool handlers, registering them, documenting their parameters and price tier, adding payment configuration, and writing validation and output-shape tests.
Why use it?
It removes uncertainty about where the code belongs and which supporting files must be updated when introducing a tool.

This is QBT-Labs/openmm-mcp's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on openmm-mcp itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything openmm-mcp configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00331
Opus 5 $0.00000 $0.00166
Sonnet 5 $0.00000 $0.00066
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00033

Measured 10d ago against content hash 9aba65e9ad1c, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-10, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

new-tool scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Adding a New MCP Tool

Follow this exact pattern when adding a new tool. Do not invent new registration patterns or file structures.

Steps

  1. Implement in src/tools/<category>.ts

    • Define a Zod schema for the tool's parameters using validators from src/utils/validators.ts
    • Add the handler inside the existing register*Tools(server, exchangeManager) function
    • Return { content: [{ type: 'text', text: JSON.stringify(...) }] }
  2. Register in src/tools/index.ts

    • If you created a new category file, import and call its register*Tools() function here
    • Existing categories (market-data, account, trading, cardano, strategy) are already wired up
  3. Update README.md

    • Add the tool to the tools table with name, description, and parameters
    • Assign a pricing tier: free (list_exchanges only), read ($0.001), or write ($0.01)
  4. Add pricing in src/payment/index.ts

    • Add the tool name to the appropriate tier in TOOL_PRICING
  5. Add unit test in src/tests/

    • Mock the exchange connector via getConnectorSafe()
    • Test parameter validation and expected output shape

Do NOT

  • Create new files under src/ for a single tool — add to the matching category file
  • Use require() — this project is ESM (NodeNext)
  • Skip npm run typecheck after changes
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

new-tool is a skill published in the GitHub repository QBT-Labs/openmm-mcp (3 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 331 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
