acquisition-channels

acquisition-channels is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from RefoundAI/lenny-skills. It costs 28 tokens per session (1,764 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to choosing and managing ways for a product to reach potential customers, such as search, social media, content, sales, or partnerships. It uses examples from Lenny's Podcast and Newsletter.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to identify distribution advantages, review channel health, connect content work to a goal, and plan growth or sales hiring.
Why use it?
It helps teams decide which channels match their customers and business goals, spot when a channel is becoming less effective, and plan when to expand or hire.

About the project

Lenny Skills is a collection of product-management and engineering workflows for Claude Code and other AI agents, covering areas such as strategy, research, planning, shipping, growth, and hiring. Each skill gives an agent specialized guidance, frameworks, checklists, or templates for product work, and the catalogue contains many of these skills.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00028 $0.01764
Opus 5 $0.00014 $0.00882
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00353
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00176

Security

Grade A, and why

acquisition-channels scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Acquisition Channel Strategy

Identify, test, and scale the distribution engines that drive sustainable growth.

Help the user with acquisition channel strategy using insights from 18 guests and posts across Lenny's Podcast and Newsletter.

How to Help

  1. Identify distribution advantages - Use frameworks to determine which of the seven proven strategies align with your product and target audience.
  2. Audit channel health - Evaluate if existing channels are reaching saturation and identify the signals for when to expand to new platforms.
  3. Optimize content strategy - Map content production to specific distribution goals like search intent or viral social hooks.
  4. Sequence growth hiring - Determine the right time to hire growth versus sales leaders based on your primary revenue motion.

Core Principles

Seek the platform trifecta

Adam Grenier: "The first is really understanding if there is an overlap between what the customers need is, what your company's goals are, and what the channel actually does really well."

Success requires finding the intersection between specific customer needs, your company goals, and the unique functional strengths of the platform.

Exploit distribution shifts

Brian Balfour: "There's multiple ways that this can happen, but one of the major ways, one of the major, major ways that we always see is that this can happen when new distribution platforms emerge, because when new distribution platforms emerge, startups are usually the fastest to take advantage of them. It's slower for the incumbents to move. It gives startups this opportunity essentially to play this game."

Startups achieve escape velocity by identifying and moving into new channels, such as AI platforms, before established incumbents can react.

Apply product rigor to content

Camille Ricketts: "The way that you think about product market fit, you have to think about content market fit. So even though content feels like it's running adjacent to the actual product that you're putting out there, you still have to think about who is my audience? Who is the audience that I really want to have? Who is the audience that is going to be drawn to this most?"

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
