response-to-reviewers

response-to-reviewers is a skill for Claude Code from Rezenders/scientific_writing_agent. It costs 73 tokens per session (1,263 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A workflow for writing a formal letter answering every comment from journal or conference reviewers. It organizes comments by reviewer and proposes corresponding manuscript edits.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it after a revision decision to prepare a structured response letter covering technical, writing, consistency, scope, and question-based comments.
Why use it?
It removes the need to track scattered review comments and write responses one by one. It can produce only the letter or include suggested edits for the manuscript.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00073 $0.01263
Opus 5 $0.00036 $0.00632
Sonnet 5 $0.00015 $0.00253
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00126

Security

Grade A, and why

response-to-reviewers scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Response to Reviewers

Full resubmission workflow. Generates a formal response-to-reviewers letter covering all reviewer comments, with per-comment responses, action summaries, and manuscript edit proposals. Nothing is written to file until you explicitly approve.

When to Use

  • After receiving a major or minor revision decision from a journal or conference
  • When preparing a resubmission and need to produce the formal response letter
  • When you want to handle all reviewer comments in a single structured session

Not For

  • Responding to a single comment in isolation → use /address-reviewer-comment
  • Rewriting prose without a review → use /write-to-intent

Inputs Required

Provide:

  1. Reviews: paste the full review text, clearly labelled by reviewer (Reviewer 1, Reviewer 2, etc.)
  2. Decision (optional): the editor's decision and meta-comments
  3. Mode: draft-only (letter only, no manuscript edits) or full (letter + edit proposals)

Workflow

Phase 0 — Parse and Categorize

Read all reviewer comments and for each one:

  • Assign a unique ID: R1.1, R1.2, R2.1, etc.
  • Categorize: technical | writing | consistency | scope | question
  • Note the affected manuscript location if identifiable from context

Present the structured comment inventory:

| ID | Reviewer | Category | Summary | Location |
|------|----------|-------------|------------------------------------------|-----------------|
| R1.1 | R1 | writing | "paragraph X is circular" | method.tex:88 |
| R1.2 | R1 | technical | "O(n) claim not justified" | method.tex:201 |
| R2.1 | R2 | scope | "comparison with baseline Y is missing" | evaluation |

USER GATE — confirm the inventory is correct. Flag any comments to skip or merge, then continue.

Phase 1 — Technical Verification (technical comments only)

For each technical comment, invoke paper-implementation-checker:

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
