rlm-init

rlm-init is a skill for Claude Code from richfrem/agent-plugins-skills. It costs 21 tokens per session (534 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

An interactive setup skill for creating an RLM, or Recursive Language Model, semantic cache for a project. The cache stores summaries of selected files for later retrieval.

In plain words
What is it for?
It is for choosing folders and file types, creating manifests and cache profiles, and running the first summarization pass.
Why use it?
It provides the initial configuration needed before ongoing summarization and cleanup can work.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00021 $0.00534
Opus 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00214
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00107
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00053

Security

Grade A, and why

rlm-init scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 14d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 7 executable files (scripts/cleanup_cache.py, scripts/distiller.py, scripts/inject_summary.py, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

RLM Cache Initialization (rlm-init)

Initializes a new Recursive Language Model (RLM) semantic cache for zero-dependency high-speed memory.

Contents

Critical Constraints

  1. Zero-Dependency: Uses standard library Python 3.8+ only; no external databases or daemons required.
  2. Profile Storage: Profiles default to .agent/learning/rlm_profiles.json.
  3. Scripted Writes: Never create cache markdown files manually; use scripts/inject_summary.py.

Quick start

Check existing coverage or initialize a profile:

python3 scripts/inventory.py --profile project

Setup Modes

  • Mode A (Standalone): RLM only. Fast keyword lookup across dense file summaries.
  • Mode B (RLM + vector-db): RLM keyword pre-filter into vector semantic search.
  • Mode C (RLM + obsidian-wiki-engine): RLM as wiki concept distiller.
  • Mode D (Super-RAG): Full stack combining RLM, vector store, and wiki concept nodes.

Workflow

  1. Requirements Discovery: Select target directories, file types, and cache destination.
  2. Profile Configuration: Define profile entry in .agent/learning/rlm_profiles.json.
  3. Manifest Creation: Define include/exclude patterns in <name>_manifest.json.
  4. Audit Gaps: Run python3 scripts/inventory.py --profile <name> to list uncached files.
  5. Initial Distillation: Deep read and inject summaries via python3 scripts/inject_summary.py.
  6. Report Readiness: Confirm initialized profile paths and ready state to the user.

Verification

Confirm 100% cache coverage with the inventory script:

python3 scripts/inventory.py --profile project

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

rlm-init is a skill published in the GitHub repository richfrem/agent-plugins-skills (7 stars, last pushed 2d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 21 tokens to every session and 534 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
