Research-Pi: Skill for Claude Code

.pi/skills/research-project-management/SKILL.md

research-project-management is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from RosMarinas/Research-Pi. It costs 77 tokens per session (1,428 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A workflow for organising a research code project, its Git history, branches, worktrees, and working environments. A worktree is a separate checkout of the same repository for isolated work.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to assign implementation work, add experiment files, combine results, and clean up temporary workspaces while keeping the project readable.
Why use it?
It prevents parallel research work from overwriting changes or leaving obsolete branches and workspaces behind. It also clarifies which person or agent controls shared project structure.

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one.

This is RosMarinas/Research-Pi's own configuration. It tells Claude Code and Codex how to work on Research-Pi itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything Research-Pi configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00077 $0.01428
Opus 5.5 $0.00031 $0.00571
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00015 $0.00286
Haiku 4.5 $0.00008 $0.00143

Security

Grade A, and why

research-project-management scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Research Project Management

Keep the current implementation clear, the project readable and compact, and history in Git. Organize enough to support research; do not turn these principles into a checklist, approval ceremony or recurring report.

Ownership and workspaces

The Leader owns branch and worktree creation, assignment, integration and removal. Executors use their assigned branch and workspace, may commit their own changes within scope, and discuss isolation needs through the available Leader/mailbox channel. They do not independently create, switch, merge or delete branches or worktrees.

Use a worktree only when conflicting parallel implementations, an independent research direction or preservation of a running baseline needs isolation. Multiple executors alone do not require multiple worktrees. Reuse suitable existing workspaces. Place new worktrees under the main project's ignored .worktrees/, never under a user-home scratch directory or nested inside another worktree.

When a temporary workspace's purpose ends, the Leader integrates useful changes or retains a committed branch, then promptly removes the worktree and unneeded branch. First account for active jobs and unique uncommitted or ignored results. Move worthwhile results to their intended project location; do not copy the entire worktree into a backup. Keep a branch only while its research purpose remains useful. Use existing task context and Git to track this, not a new registry.

Git is the version store

Track core code in Git. Before replacing an uncommitted implementation worth retaining, commit the relevant work without sweeping in others' edits. After replacement, delete obsolete code and record the deletion. Recover old implementations from commits or retained branches, not _old, _backup, timestamped source copies, duplicated source directories or commented-out implementations.

Active baselines and algorithm alternatives may coexist when they answer a current research question. Give them meaningful names and reuse shared logic. Once retired, their code belongs in history. Git does not preserve untracked experiment outputs; handle those according to their research value.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

research-project-management is a skill published in the GitHub repository RosMarinas/Research-Pi (7 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 77 tokens to every session and 1,428 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-18.
