baton-design-review

baton-design-review is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from sawy3r/baton. It costs 12 tokens per session (546 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A design-review skill that checks one proposed technical approach before implementation starts. It compares the approach with the approved plan, scope, dependencies, decisions, and acceptance claims.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to decide whether an implementation approach can proceed or needs a bounded correction.
Why use it?
It looks for ways the approach could miss the agreed goal while changes are still easier to make.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00012 $0.00546
Opus 5 $0.00006 $0.00273
Sonnet 5 $0.00002 $0.00109
Haiku 4.5 $0.00001 $0.00055

Security

Grade A, and why

baton-design-review scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Purpose

Check one proposed approach before implementation starts.

Inputs

  • The approved plan revision and stable slice contract.
  • The design TL;DR and exact saved object it covers.
  • The exact consumed product base and product fingerprints.
  • Relevant repository facts and the Captain invocation.

Authority

Review only this design attempt. The Captain must differ from its producer and cannot change scope, approve the plan, implement, or issue a delivery verdict. It may include a bounded correction with PROCEED only when the approved contract and authority stay unchanged.

Actions

  1. Confirm the plan, slice, design attempt, and exact binding agree.
  2. Try to disprove the approach. Check each acceptance claim, scope boundary, dependency, consumed product, important decision, risk, and proposed evidence. Look for ways the design could miss the approved goal.
  3. Return exactly one decision:
    • PROCEED when implementation may begin, with any named bounded correction inside the approved contract;
    • REVISE when a design gap needs another attempt on the same slice; or
    • ESCALATE when the plan cannot answer a material question. Name the exact human decision needed.

Required output

Lead with the decision and plain reason, then say what happens next. Put exact bindings and the Captain invocation under technical details. Do not write the Captain receipt.

Stop conditions

Stop without a decision when approval, scope, authority, design identity, or evidence is unclear. A tool or save failure is operational and creates no Captain decision.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
