complete-cicd-pipeline-deployment-for-kubernetes-from-scratch

complete-cicd-pipeline-deployment-for-kubernetes-from-scratch is a skill for Claude Code from selvarajmurugesan90/ops-engineering-skills. It costs 156 tokens per session (4,015 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A complete automated delivery pipeline for a service that runs on Kubernetes, from source checkout through container build, security checks, registry upload, and a GitOps handoff.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to set up a new pipeline, run software and dependency security checks, publish a container image, and commit its new version to a deployment repository for tools such as Argo CD or Flux.
Why use it?
It connects the steps needed for a new service while keeping CI from directly changing the live cluster. GitOps means deployment is applied by a cluster tool after a configuration repository changes.

Fix: Remove references to credential paths. Use environment variables or secrets managers. For docs, use placeholder paths (e.g., /path/to/config). Never load .env or token files in production code paths.

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

Security

Grade A, and why

complete-cicd-pipeline-deployment-for-kubernetes-from-scratch scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Complete CI/CD Pipeline Deployment for Kubernetes, From Scratch

Purpose

A Kubernetes-targeted pipeline's defining mechanical trait is where its job ends: it builds a container image, gates it, and pushes it to a registry — but it does not touch the cluster. The last step is a Git commit (a new image tag in a manifests/config repo), and a separate in-cluster GitOps operator (Argo CD/Flux) performs the actual apply. This is the opposite shape from the VM-based and serverless variants of this skill, both of which end with the pipeline itself calling a deploy API against live infrastructure. Every individual mechanic here — the Dockerfile, the SAST/SCA tool invocations, the GitOps repo structure — already has its own deep skill; this one sequences them into one coherent "empty repo to running-via-GitOps" walkthrough and is explicit about the handoff boundary so a well-meaning "just add a deploy step" doesn't reintroduce direct cluster credentials into CI.

When to use

  • A new Kubernetes-targeted service has no pipeline yet, and the team wants source-to-GitOps-handoff wired up in one pass rather than individually bolting on build, scan, and deploy steps over time.
  • An existing pipeline currently ends with kubectl apply/helm upgrade run directly from CI, and the user wants to migrate it to a GitOps handoff instead.
  • The user wants to understand exactly where CI's responsibility ends and the GitOps operator's begins for a containerized workload.
  • Standing up the SAST/SCA gate sequence specifically for a container-image build (as opposed to a zip/layer or AMI-baking build).

Prerequisites & environment

  • A Git host and CI platform already available — github-actions-single-repo-workflows or jenkins-declarative-pipeline-per-repo cover the concrete pipeline-authoring mechanics this skill sequences; either works, and examples below show GitHub Actions with a Jenkins note where the shape differs.
  • A container registry the pipeline can push to (GHCR, ECR, ACR, Artifact Registry, or a self-hosted Harbor) with least-privilege push credentials stored as CI secrets.
  • A separate GitOps config/manifests repo already set up — per gitops-workflow — with an Argo CD Application/ApplicationSet (or Flux Kustomization) already watching it. This skill assumes that operator-side setup exists; see the four complete-gitops-argocd-deployment-on-*-from-scratch skills in gitops-argo-ecosystem if it doesn't yet.
  • Write access (a bot/service account, ideally opening a PR rather than pushing directly) from the application repo's CI to the config repo.
  • SAST/SCA tooling chosen per sast-integration and software-composition-analysis-sca.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
