jev-judgment-design

jev-judgment-design is a skill for Claude Code from shimo4228/claude-harness. It costs 67 tokens per session (1,680 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A design guide for moving closed questions from a large language model to Jev, a typed model that answers choices or scores rather than writing prose. It explains how to provide the right state and let program code decide whether a result is accepted.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when designing relevance, novelty, evidence-strength, screening, triage, or reranking decisions in an LLM research pipeline.
Why use it?
It prevents screening and ranking decisions from being made without enough context, such as judging relevance only from shared words. It also separates fixed-choice decisions from open-ended research and writing.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00067 $0.01680
Opus 5.5 $0.00027 $0.00672
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00336
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00168

Security

Grade A, and why

jev-judgment-design scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 16d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 123 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Jev judgment design

Jev answers closed questions with probabilities and does not write prose. Moving an LLM pipeline's judgments to Jev makes them cheap and parallel, but Jev answers only within the state it is handed. This skill owns the design of that state and of the side that decides accept/reject from the answers. The general design guidance for Jev (state / instructions / criteria, choosing Choice, Noul, or Score, no-match, set thresholds on your own data) is canonical in plugin skill typesafe:typesafe-ai, so read that first and read only the judgments layered on top here.

Sources: the implementation in jev-research-pipeline (https://github.com/shimo4228/jev-research-pipeline) and the article "Moving the research judgments I left to an LLM to Jev, a judgment-only model" (https://zenn.dev/shimo4228/articles/jev-research-judgment-offload).

1. Move only closed judgments

Move to Jev the judgments whose answer can be stated as a yes/no probability, one pick from a set of options, or a point on a graded scale. Keep work with an open-ended answer shape, such as where to search next or how to write, with the LLM. After the move, watch the instrument "number of LLM judgments during a run", not "number of questions to Jev" — Jev's question count may grow by as many judgments as were moved.

2. Put what the judgment is made against into state

"Is it relevant" lets through anything that shares vocabulary when the comparison target is not in state. Jev is answering exactly what it was asked, so the fix belongs in state, not in the question. Make the comparison target the question that theme is currently seeking an answer to, and pass scope, exclusions, and already-accepted evidence along with it.

state = {
    "question": {
        "title": question.title, # the question currently seeking an answer
        "brief": question.brief,        # scope
        "evidence": question.evidence, # what counts as evidence
        "not": question.negative_topics, # topics that overlap in vocabulary but are out of scope
    },
    "source": {"title": ..., "url": ..., "excerpt": ...},
    "evidence_set": accepted_claims, # evidence already accepted for this question (the baseline for novelty)
}

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

jev-judgment-design is a skill published in the GitHub repository shimo4228/claude-harness (3 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 67 tokens to every session and 1,680 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-24.
