shipwrights-spec-cancel

shipwrights-spec-cancel is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from shipwrights/core. It costs 57 tokens per session (360 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A skill that cancels a software specification by marking it cancelled while keeping its file. A specification is a written description of planned work and its requirements.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to abandon drafted or active specifications that are no longer needed or point in the wrong direction.
Why use it?
It stops an unwanted or mistaken specification without deleting the record, so the decision remains available for later review.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00057 $0.00360
Opus 5 $0.00028 $0.00180
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.00072
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00036

Measured 8d ago against content hash e80cb7455d24, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-08, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

shipwrights-spec-cancel scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

/shipwrights-spec-cancel — abandon a spec

Use this when:

  • The drafted spec is wrong-direction and revising won't fix it
  • Priorities changed and the work isn't needed anymore
  • The spec was created by mistake

What you do

  1. Validate spec exists.
  2. Refuse if status is shipped or already cancelled (terminal states).
  3. Flip frontmatter to status: cancelled.
  4. Commit: chore(spec): cancel <id>.
  5. If the spec was past approved, note that scratch branches may exist (<feature>--backend, --frontend, --qa) and need manual cleanup.

Hard rules

  • The file is not deleted. It stays as an audit trail.
  • After cancel, the orchestrator (/shipwrights-spec, /shipwrights-spec-approve, -revise) refuses to act on this id.
  • Cancelling mid-build leaves scratch branches; the user cleans them up.

Output

✓ Spec <id> cancelled.
The file stays in place as an audit trail.

If past approved:

Note: status was "<previous-status>" — scratch branches may still exist.
Clean them up manually with: git branch | grep -- '--' | xargs git branch -D

CLI implementation: lib/commands/spec-cancel.mjs.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
