smart-plotting

smart-plotting is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from sillyDaibo/reasflow-dev. It costs 20 tokens per session (1,108 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A figure-making and plot-review workflow for research papers. It includes helper scripts and supports requests for new figures or an exact layout specification.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when creating research charts or reviewing plots for a paper. It is intended for paper figures rather than general application graphics.
Why use it?
It helps produce consistent, publication-ready figures and inspect image-based plots with a defined process.

Needs its repository: it runs a file that does not travel with it, so clone the repository first. The line is if [ -d ./.agents/skills ]; then.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00020 $0.01108
Opus 5.5 $0.00008 $0.00443
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00004 $0.00222
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00111

Security

Grade A, and why

smart-plotting scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (scripts/analyze-plot.py, scripts/smart-plot.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Smart Plotting

Overview

Two modes — always prefer request mode for new figures; use spec mode only when you already know the exact layout.

Set:

SKILL_ROOT="$REASFLOW_PRIVATE_SKILLS_ROOT/experiment/smart-plotting"

Pass a natural-language description. The script generates matplotlib code via LLM, executes it, scores quality with vision analysis (target ≥ 8.5), and iterates automatically up to --max-iterations times.

Alg_Exp/.venv/bin/python "$SKILL_ROOT/scripts/smart-plot.py" \
  --request "Convergence curves: X=iteration, Y=MSE log-scale, compare methods A B C with mean±std shading, 14pt font, DPI 300, paper style" \
  --data-sources Alg_Exp/data/results.csv \
  --output Alg_Exp/picture/convergence.png \
  --auto-analyze --max-iterations 3 \
  --metadata-output Alg_Exp/data/convergence_meta.json

If the user requests changes after the first run, pass the feedback:

Alg_Exp/.venv/bin/python "$SKILL_ROOT/scripts/smart-plot.py" \
  --request "same convergence figure" \
  --data-sources Alg_Exp/data/results.csv \
  --output Alg_Exp/picture/convergence_v2.png \
--previous-feedback "legend overlaps the curves; move it outside the plot area" \
  --auto-analyze --max-iterations 3

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

smart-plotting is a skill published in the GitHub repository sillyDaibo/reasflow-dev (2 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 20 tokens to every session and 1,108 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
