guided-review

guided-review is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from slopus/happy-agent. It costs 101 tokens per session (3,792 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A method for explaining a code change as a guided review rather than as a file-by-file diff. It creates an inline HTML document that presents the change, control flow, contracts, and main ideas beside relevant code.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to review pull requests, branches, commits, worktrees, or subsystems, especially when a visual walkthrough is requested.
Why use it?
It helps readers understand what a change does without repeatedly jumping between files in a large diff.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00101 $0.03792
Opus 5.5 $0.00040 $0.01517
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00020 $0.00758
Haiku 4.5 $0.00010 $0.00379

Security

Grade A, and why

guided-review scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 8d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 292 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Guided review as an inline artifact

A big diff in file order makes a reader jump between files for half an hour to learn what the change even does. A guided review does that work for them in a minute: what the change is, how control now flows through it, what changed in its contracts — types, signatures, endpoints — and then its ideas in chapters, most important first, each beside the code that shows it. A reader learns a change from its calls and its contracts, not from its list of files; the diff viewer already has that list.

Build it as one html artifact shown inline: the chat draws it right in your reply at its full height, laid on the chat's own surface. You write its files with the artifact tools, patching them with edit_artifact_file as you would any other file, and every tool call that changes it makes a new version the chat follows in place. Everything it quotes comes from the real change, through Happy's standard components; you never copy code into it by hand.

The pieces

Make the artifact first, then give it two files.

  1. create_artifact with type: "html", a short title ("Review: crop before upload"), and display: "inline_expanded". It returns the artifact's id.

  2. changes.diff — the change itself, written by git, never by hand. Write it to a scratch file inside your working directory with the shell, then publish it with update_artifact and files: [{ "fromPath": ".context/changes.diff", "path": "changes.diff" }]:

    mkdir -p .context && git diff <base> > .context/changes.diff
    # New files are part of the change too.
    git ls-files --others --exclude-standard -z \
      | xargs -0 -I{} git diff --no-index /dev/null {} >> .context/changes.diff

For a committed range use git diff <base> <head> and nothing else. For an explanation of code that did not change, skip the diff and publish the real source files with update_artifact and files: [{ "fromPath": "src/app.ts", "path": "src/app.ts" }]. Quote their lines with <happy-code>.

  3. index.html — the review, written with write_artifact_file, in this order: the standard styles, your few lines of CSS, the HTML, and the components script last.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
