smithers: Skill for Claude Code

.agents/skills/smithers-harness-detect/SKILL.md

smithers-harness-detect is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from smithersai/smithers. It costs 25 tokens per session (217 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

Guidance for detecting local coding tools, their account status, supported model options, and installed versions through controlled system checks.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when changing local harness discovery, executable and version checks, account detection, model flags, or probe isolation.
Why use it?
It keeps detection based on the tools actually installed and prevents unrelated credentials or unverified identity claims from leaking into probes.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one. Also seen: installed under .agents/ (shared by several agents); mentions Codex.

This is smithersai/smithers's own configuration. It tells Claude Code and Codex how to work on smithers itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything smithers configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00025 $0.00217
Opus 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00087
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00005 $0.00043
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00022

Security

Grade A, and why

smithers-harness-detect scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 18d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Harness detection

Read the harness-detect README and the shared harness contracts in packages/rpc/src/LocalApp.ts and launch metadata in packages/rpc/src/AgentRoles.ts before changing a detector. The package is pure over an injected HarnessHost; filesystem and process probes belong in the adapter. Keep binary search, account status, and model flags grounded in the installed harness's actual help and observed files.

A version probe runs only --version with probeEnv's PROBE_ENV_KEYS allowlist. Do not pass session or vendor credentials to the child; the live adapter also owns sandboxing and timeout. The Codex JWT email claim is decoded without verification and must not be returned as an authenticated identity. Test the injected host with fixture paths and a probe environment that excludes unrelated tokens.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

smithers-harness-detect is a skill published in the GitHub repository smithersai/smithers (439 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 25 tokens to every session and 217 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-25.
