Solar-wind magnetic turbulence spectrum

A guided, end-to-end version of the classic IDL SPEDAS "wave/turbulence crib sheet": take a magnetic-field interval and characterize its fluctuation power vs. frequency. It chains existing unified + analysis tools — there is no dedicated "turbulence" tool, and there should not be; the value is in the procedure and the interpretation. For PVI, intermittency event tables, or third-order-law/energy-transfer prerequisites, load solar-wind-turbulence-intermittency alongside this spectrum skill.

PSP paper-reproduction branch

For PSP Encounter-1 papers such as Chhiber et al. 2020 PVI (10.3847/1538-4365/ab53d2), inner-heliosphere turbulence evolution (10.3847/1538-4365/ab60a3), and enhanced energy-transfer/cascade-rate work (10.3847/1538-4365/ab5dae), start with this skill but keep the claim level explicit:

  1. Smoke/proxy run: a narrow MAG RTN 1-minute + SWEAP/SPC interval may be enough to prove the data route, artifact bundle, and provenance. Label it cached_smoke or representative_proxy, not paper_quality.
  2. Derived breadcrumbs: PVI, rolling variance, simple PSD slopes, vector increments, and delta z/third-order-law teaching proxies are useful for orientation. Record cadence, lag, normalization, fit band, and sample counts.
  3. Paper-quality escalation: switch to the cadence/product used by the paper, isolate stationary intervals, handle gaps/fill values, and document the Taylor-hypothesis / plasma-moment assumptions before reporting cascade rates.
  4. Event output: when PVI or switchback thresholds are used, write an event table next to the PNG so the result is reviewable and reusable.
