competitive-profile

competitive-profile is a skill for Claude Code from stefanoskarakasis/Product-Marketing-Skills. It costs 126 tokens per session (5,344 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A skill that keeps dated, sourced profiles for five key competitors and refreshes only information that has become outdated. It supplies a shared base for related competitive-analysis work.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to set up a competitor roster, maintain profiles, check freshness, and propose updates from signals, deal data, or battlecard reviews.
Why use it?
Competitor facts change quickly, and repeated research can produce inconsistent answers. This keeps one maintained source for later battlecards and market work.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00126 $0.05344
Opus 5.5 $0.00050 $0.02138
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00025 $0.01069
Haiku 4.5 $0.00013 $0.00534

Security

Grade A, and why

competitive-profile scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Competitive Profile

A battlecard is only as good as the facts under it, and competitor facts decay: pricing pages change in weeks, a launch or an acquisition changes the story overnight. This skill keeps five competitors current. It does not research the whole market and it does not draw the alternatives map. It takes the competitors your brain already names, holds a dated and sourced profile for each, refreshes only the lines that have gone stale, and proposes what it learned back to brain Section 3 for you to confirm. Every competitive skill (competitive-battlecard, signal-monitor, positioning-messaging) then reads one fresh source instead of re-researching.

Trigger

  • When: Setting up or reviewing which competitors matter and what market you play in; refreshing profiles; checking what has gone stale; folding signals, battlecard debriefs or deal data into the profiles.
  • Not for: Mapping who buyers compare you to, status quo and DIY included → alternatives-map. A weekly read on what changed across the market → signal-monitor. A one-page card for a live deal → competitive-battlecard. Registering or verifying your own claims → proof-points. Building the brain itself → product-marketing-context.
  • Example prompts:
    • "Set up my competitive profiles."
    • "Who are my five key competitors, and what's stale?"
    • "Refresh the Stripe profile."
    • "Review my roster against last quarter's deals." (v2: uses ~~CRM counts)
    • "Fold this week's signals into the profiles." (v2)
    • "Track all twelve competitors." (edge: capped at five; the other seven stay in Section 3 as they are)

Inputs

  • Args: A mode (below) and optionally a competitor name. With no mode, the skill picks one: setup if no roster exists, otherwise status.
  • Modes:
Mode Scope What it does
setup v1 Confirms your market, picks the roster of up to five, builds first profiles, proposes a schedule
refresh v1 Refreshes only stale lines for one competitor or the whole roster
status v1 Freshness board: what is stale, what changed, what is missing
review v1 Shows proposed brain notes as exact text and writes them on your yes
intake v2 Folds /context/signals/, /context/battlecards/ and ~~CRM or ~~call recordings evidence into profile proposals
roster v2 Quarterly check of who really shows up in deals; proposes a swap, never forces one

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
