push-notifications

push-notifications is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from TalissonVitorino/kmp-ios-skills. It costs 34 tokens per session (3,457 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to sending push notifications to Android and iOS apps using Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service. It covers delivery setup, notification channels, payloads, and foreground or background behavior.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to configure notification dependencies and manifests, register devices, handle incoming messages, and build rich notifications.
Why use it?
It addresses common setup and delivery mistakes, such as missing Android service registration or using removed Firebase Kotlin extension modules.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00034 $0.03457
Opus 5 $0.00017 $0.01729
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00691
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00346

Security

Grade A, and why

push-notifications scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Push Notification Patterns

iOS-related routing: for updating a Live Activity / Dynamic Island via an APNs push (content-state), use activitykit; for pushing widget timeline reloads, use widgetkit. This skill covers the FCM/APNs delivery + payload layer.

Android / Firebase Cloud Messaging

Firebase Setup

Add google-services.json to the app/ directory and configure dependencies:

// build.gradle.kts (project)
plugins {
    id("com.google.gms.google-services") version "4.5.0" apply false
}

// build.gradle.kts (app)
plugins {
    id("com.google.gms.google-services")
}

dependencies {
    implementation(platform("com.google.firebase:firebase-bom:34.18.0"))
    implementation("com.google.firebase:firebase-messaging")
}

The -ktx modules were removed in BoM 34.0.0 — all Kotlin extensions (Firebase.messaging, etc.) now live in the main artifacts. Do not add firebase-messaging-ktx.

Manifest Registration

Without the MESSAGING_EVENT intent filter the service is never invoked — this is the most common "onMessageReceived never fires" cause:

<service
    android:name=".MyFirebaseMessagingService"
    android:exported="false">
    <intent-filter>
        <action android:name="com.google.firebase.MESSAGING_EVENT" />
    </intent-filter>
</service>

<!-- Applies only to notification messages FCM renders itself (app backgrounded). -->
<meta-data android:name="com.google.firebase.messaging.default_notification_icon"
    android:resource="@drawable/ic_notification" />
<meta-data android:name="com.google.firebase.messaging.default_notification_color"
    android:resource="@color/notification_accent" />
<meta-data android:name="com.google.firebase.messaging.default_notification_channel_id"
    android:value="default" />

The channel named by default_notification_channel_id must already exist when the message arrives; otherwise FCM falls back to a generic SDK-created channel the user cannot meaningfully tune.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

push-notifications is a skill published in the GitHub repository TalissonVitorino/kmp-ios-skills (12 stars, last pushed 17d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 34 tokens to every session and 3,457 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
