update-api-documentation

update-api-documentation is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from tarlepp/symfony-flex-backend. It costs 36 tokens per session (1,798 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide for maintaining OpenAPI documentation, the machine-readable description of an API's endpoints, data formats, responses, and security rules.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when updating endpoint descriptions, data schemas, reusable responses, examples, security details, or documentation filters.
Why use it?
It keeps published API documentation aligned with the actual application without changing the application's behavior just to match the documentation.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00036 $0.01798
Opus 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00719
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00007 $0.00360
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00180

Security

Grade A, and why

update-api-documentation scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 168 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

What is this?

Use this skill when updating or repairing API documentation without necessarily adding an endpoint: OpenAPI attributes, model schemas, response components, security descriptions, examples, or documentation areas. It owns documentation accuracy, not permission to change runtime contracts to match a specification. For endpoint changes, also use add-custom-api-endpoint or add-rest-resource. For shared output changes, use update-api-response-contract.

Follow the shared skill guidance, including repository instructions and AI rules.

Inspect the actual generation inputs and runtime evidence:

  • composer.json, composer.lock, and symfony.lock: installed Nelmio, swagger-php, Symfony components, and recipe configuration. Use supported OpenAPI attributes, not remembered annotations or API Platform conventions.
  • config/packages/nelmio_api_doc.yaml: global metadata, security declarations, and default/internal area path filters.
  • config/routes/nelmio_api_doc.yaml: /api/doc UI and /api/doc.json JSON routes. An area definition does not by itself expose a separate HTTP route.
  • OpenAPI attributes in src/Controller/, including HealthzController, v1/Auth/GetTokenController, and custom profile/relationship controllers: operation IDs, bodies, parameters, responses, tags, and Nelmio model groups.
  • Entity serializer/OpenAPI attributes, request DTOs, AutoMapper configuration, resources, and REST action/method traits: accepted data, actual output, inherited routes, status codes, and field exposure.
  • config/packages/security.yaml, authentication handlers, voters, and response/exception subscribers: real access policy, authentication errors, headers, and error bodies.
  • tests/E2E/DocumentationTest.php and affected E2E controller tests: documentation availability versus actual API contracts.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
