telnyx-stt-python

telnyx-stt-python is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from team-telnyx/ai. It costs 42 tokens per session (1,408 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A Python integration for turning audio into written text through a Telnyx speech-to-text API. It supports multiple models, languages, keyword biasing, provider listings, and common API error handling.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to send an audio URL for transcription from Python and handle the returned text or API errors.
Why use it?
It removes the need to build direct HTTP requests and response handling for transcription. It also documents how to handle network failures, authentication errors, invalid requests, and rate limits.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00042 $0.01408
Opus 5 $0.00021 $0.00704
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00282
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00141

Security

Grade A, and why

telnyx-stt-python scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Telnyx Speech-to-Text - Python

Installation

pip install telnyx

Setup

import os
from telnyx import Telnyx

client = Telnyx(
    api_key=os.environ.get("TELNYX_API_KEY"),
)

All examples below assume client is already initialized as shown above.

Error Handling

All API calls can fail with network errors, rate limits (429), validation errors (422), or authentication errors (401). Always handle errors in production code:

import telnyx

try:
    response = client.ai.audio.transcribe(
        model="openai/whisper-large-v3-turbo",
        url="https://example.com/audio.mp3",
    )
except telnyx.APIConnectionError:
    print("Network error — check connectivity and retry")
except telnyx.RateLimitError:
    import time
    time.sleep(1)
except telnyx.APIStatusError as e:
    print(f"API error {e.status_code}: {e.message}")

Common error codes: 401 invalid API key, 403 insufficient permissions, 404 resource not found, 422 validation error, 429 rate limited.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
