skill-079-broken-url-monitoring

skill-079-broken-url-monitoring is a skill for Claude Code from TrueClicks/claude-plugins. It costs 31 tokens per session (615 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A check of the web addresses used by ads and sitelinks for HTTP errors. A 4xx error means the request or page is invalid, while a 5xx error means the server failed.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps collect and deduplicate ad landing-page URLs, rank them by traffic, and prepare them for HTTP status testing.
Why use it?
Broken landing pages can waste paid clicks and prevent visitors from completing an action. The add-on identifies URLs and prioritises them, but external tools are needed to test their responses.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00031 $0.00615
Opus 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00246
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00006 $0.00123
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00061

Security

Grade A, and why

skill-079-broken-url-monitoring scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 21d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Skill 079: Broken URL Monitoring

Purpose

Scan landing pages for 4xx and 5xx HTTP errors that waste ad spend and damage user experience. Broken URLs result in 100% bounce rate on affected clicks, wasted budget, and potential Quality Score penalties.

Data Requirements

Data Source: Standard (plus external URL testing)

Standard Data:

  • data/account/campaigns/*/*/ads.md - Ad final URLs
  • data/account/ext_sitelinks.md - Sitelink URLs
  • data/performance/campaigns/*/*/ads_metrics_30_days.md - Click volume per ad

Reference GAQL:

SELECT
  ad_group_ad.ad.id,
  ad_group_ad.ad.final_urls,
  campaign.name,
  ad_group.name,
  ad_group_ad.status,
  metrics.clicks,
  metrics.cost_micros
FROM ad_group_ad
WHERE segments.date DURING LAST_30_DAYS
  AND ad_group_ad.status = 'ENABLED'
ORDER BY metrics.clicks DESC

Use /google-ads:get-custom for comprehensive URL extraction.

Note: Actual HTTP status testing requires external tools or scripts.

Analysis Steps

  1. Extract all landing page URLs: From ads, keywords (overrides), and extensions.
  2. Deduplicate and prioritize: Focus on high-traffic URLs first.
  3. Provide URL list for testing: External verification needed for HTTP status.
  4. Calculate wasted spend: Clicks to broken URLs x Avg CPC.

Thresholds

Condition Severity
404/410 error on any URL with clicks Critical
5xx server error on any URL Critical
Redirect chain > 3 hops Warning
301 redirect (should update to final URL) Warning
HTTP URL (should be HTTPS) Warning

Output

Short (default):

## Broken URL Monitoring Audit

**Account:** [Name] | **URLs Extracted:** [X] | **To Test:** [Y]

### Priority URLs for HTTP Testing
| URL | Monthly Clicks | Cost |
|-----|----------------|------|
| [URL] | [X] | $[Y] |

### Actions Required
1. Test URLs for HTTP status codes
2. Fix any 4xx/5xx errors immediately
3. Update 301 redirects to final URLs

### Testing Methods
- Browser DevTools Network tab
- cURL: `curl -I [URL]`
- Screaming Frog (bulk)

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
