adapter-msaf

adapter-msaf is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Tyox-all/Weave_Protocol. It costs 136 tokens per session (1,348 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A code library that applies WARD.md security rules to Microsoft Agent Framework, a toolkit for building AI agents, through its middleware pipeline.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to restrict tool calls in Microsoft Agent Framework or Copilot SDK agents and handle denied actions in application code.
Why use it?
It lets each agent enforce its own rules when it is about to call a tool, without relying on a separate process.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00136 $0.01348
Opus 5 $0.00068 $0.00674
Sonnet 5 $0.00027 $0.00270
Haiku 4.5 $0.00014 $0.00135

Security

Grade A, and why

adapter-msaf scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 5 executable files (src/cli.ts, src/index.ts, src/middleware.ts, …), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Microsoft Agent Framework adapter for Weave Protocol

The @weave_protocol/adapter-msaf package enforces WARD.md policies inside Microsoft Agent Framework (MSAF) via its middleware pipeline. Unlike the Claude Code and Antigravity adapters which use config-file hooks, this adapter is a library that the user registers programmatically in their agent setup.

When to use

  • User is building an MSAF agent and wants policy enforcement at the tool-call layer
  • User wants the same WARD.md they use elsewhere (Claude Code, Antigravity, MCP) to apply to their MSAF agent
  • User wants typed exceptions (WardDeniedError) to catch and handle WARD denials in their code
  • User wants per-agent enforcement (not global, since one process may run multiple agents with different policies)

Architecture difference from claudecode / antigravity adapters

MSAF middleware is registered programmatically, not via a config file. So:

  • No init writes to disk; instead it prints the integration snippet
  • Middleware is per-agent, not global
  • Runs in-process (no subprocess invocation overhead)

The user must paste a small code snippet into their MSAF agent setup. The CLI helps with init (snippet generator), status (verify policy resolution), and test (dry-run a call).

Primary API

import { WardMiddleware } from '@weave_protocol/adapter-msaf';

const ward = new WardMiddleware({
  // wardPath: './WARD.md'  // or auto-resolve from cwd
  // failMode: 'closed' // or 'open' (default)
  // toolMappings: { ... }   // custom tool name → capability
  // onAllow: (call, result) => { ... }
  // onDeny:  (call, result) => { ... }
});

agent.useFunctionMiddleware(ward.functionMiddleware());

WARD resolution order

  1. wardPath option (explicit)
  2. wardSource option (raw markdown)
  3. $WEAVE_WARD_PATH
  4. <cwd>/WARD.md
  5. <cwd>/.weave/WARD.md
  6. <cwd>/.msaf/WARD.md

CLI

weave-msaf init [--language=ts|csharp|python]    # print integration snippet
weave-msaf status # show active WARD + mappings
weave-msaf test <tool> [--input=JSON]             # dry-run a tool call

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
