twilio-setup

twilio-setup is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from vellum-ai/vellum-assistant. It costs 15 tokens per session (3,248 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A setup guide for configuring Twilio credentials and a phone number for voice calls. Twilio is a service that lets software make and receive phone calls.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when connecting an assistant to Twilio for phone-based voice calls.
Why use it?
It separates ordinary account details from the private authentication token and stores each in the appropriate place. This makes the voice connection ready for later use.

About the project

Vellum Assistant is a personal AI assistant that remembers information about users, learns their preferences, and takes actions across connected apps. It is intended for people who want an assistant that can manage conversations, unfinished work, and proactive notifications over time. The catalogue skills, hooks, instruction, and setting configure or extend how the assistant works.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00015 $0.03248
Opus 5 $0.00008 $0.01624
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00650
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00325

Security

Grade A, and why

twilio-setup scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 301 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

You are helping your user configure Twilio for voice calls. Walk through each step below.

Value Classification

Before you begin, understand how each Twilio value is stored:

Value Type Storage method Secret?
Account SID Config assistant config set twilio.accountSid No
Auth Token Credential assistant credentials prompt --service twilio --field auth_token Yes
Phone Number Config assistant config set twilio.phoneNumber No
  • Config values (Account SID, Phone Number) are non-sensitive identifiers. Collect them via normal conversation -- the user can paste them in chat or you can use AskUserQuestion. Auth Token is a secret. Collect it securely via assistant credentials prompt -- never accept it pasted in plaintext chat.

Retrieving Twilio Credentials

Many steps below require the Account SID and Auth Token. Retrieve them with:

TWILIO_SID=$(assistant config get twilio.accountSid)
TWILIO_TOKEN=$(assistant credentials reveal --service twilio --field auth_token)

Checking Current Configuration

You can determine whether Twilio has been fully set up by checking to see that all the following config and credential values have been set:

assistant config get twilio.accountSid
assistant credentials inspect --service twilio --field auth_token --json # check "hasSecret" field
assistant config get twilio.phoneNumber
  • If all three config values are non-empty -- Twilio is fully configured. Offer to show status or reconfigure.
  • Otherwise, continue to the missing steps.
  • If Account SID and Auth Token are already stored (even when you skip Step 2), give the Channel Trust Floors briefing before continuing unless you already gave it in this conversation.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
