vf-ext-development

A development guide for Veryfront extensions, which are packages that add declared capabilities to the Veryfront framework. It covers their manifest, factory code, contracts, setup, cleanup, tests, and validation.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when creating, changing, testing, or publishing an extension under `extensions/`. It also covers diagnosing extension contract and capability lint failures.
Why use it?
It helps keep an extension's declared metadata aligned with what its code actually provides. This prevents contract or capability mismatches from failing continuous-integration checks.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00041 $0.03824
Opus 5 $0.00020 $0.01912
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00765
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00382

Security

Grade A, and why

vf-ext-development scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Veryfront Extension Development

Overview

A Veryfront extension is a deno.json-described package that default-exports an ExtensionFactory. The factory returns an object that declares its contracts, declares its capabilities, and optionally provides implementations through static provides or dynamic setup(ctx).

Core principle: The manifest and the factory must agree. CI fails the build if veryfront.contracts / veryfront.capabilities in deno.json drift from what the factory returns.

When to Use

  • Creating a new extension under extensions/
  • Adding/removing a contract or capability on an existing extension
  • Adding a new contract type to the framework (also touches the recommendations registry and the extensions README)
  • Writing tests for an extension factory or its contract implementation
  • Triaging lint:extension-contracts / lint:extension-capabilities failures

Scaffold

veryfront extension init ext-my-cache       # writes extensions/ext-my-cache/{deno.json,src/index.ts,src/index.test.ts}
veryfront extension validate extensions/ext-my-cache

Always use the ext- prefix. scripts/lint/audit-extension-{capabilities,contracts}.ts only scan directories whose name starts with ext-; an extension at extensions/my-cache/ is silently skipped by both lint tasks. veryfront extension init does not add the prefix for you — pass it explicitly.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

vf-ext-development is a skill published in the GitHub repository veryfront/veryfront-code (18 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 41 tokens to every session and 3,824 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
