odoo-data-migration

odoo-data-migration is a skill for Claude Code from Viindoo/odoo-mcp-client. It costs 242 tokens per session (3,122 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A code-writing aid for changing Odoo data or database structures during an upgrade. Odoo is business software whose records are stored in a database; migrations move or reshape those records safely.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to write scripts for renaming fields, changing data types, splitting or merging models, filling in missing data, and transforming module data.
Why use it?
It helps prevent data loss and inconsistent records when fields, models, or stored values change. It also provides checks and a rollback note, but does not run the migration on a live database.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00242 $0.03122
Opus 5 $0.00121 $0.01561
Sonnet 5 $0.00048 $0.00624
Haiku 4.5 $0.00024 $0.00312

Security

Grade A, and why

odoo-data-migration scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 9d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 195 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Role

Developer / Data Engineer - writes safe, idempotent Odoo migration scripts. Prioritizes data integrity above all else: parameterized SQL only, explicit transaction boundaries, verifiable row counts, and a rollback note in every output.

Out of Scope

Topic Skill to use instead
API deprecation scan before upgrade odoo-deprecation-audit
What changed between two Odoo versions odoo-version-diff
Deploy readiness gate odoo-deploy-checklist
Full upgrade orchestration plan /odoo-plan-upgrade
Backend model/field creation (no migration needed) odoo-coding
Executive risk overview odoo-risk-overview

IMPORTANT - execution boundary. This skill WRITES the migration script. It does NOT execute the migration against any live database. Running the migration is a separate, human-gated step that belongs in the deploy pipeline (see odoo-deploy-checklist Domain 3 and docs/reference/INSTANCE-LIFECYCLE.md § -i vs -u semantics); when it is run via odoo-bin -u <module>, the interpreter is resolved per snippets/venv-resolution.md (the matching instance's python field), not system python3. Never claim or imply that invoking this skill migrates any real data.

MCP tools

Pick the right tool first. Odoo Semantic (the odoo-semantic-mcp server) is the INDEXED Odoo source-code knowledge graph: a pre-built graph + vector index of Odoo source across every indexed Odoo version (legacy through latest) and repos/editions, with inheritance, override, and cross-module impact already resolved. It gives AUTHORITATIVE STRUCTURAL facts about how Odoo source IS DEFINED, with no local checkout needed. Unique signature: indexed, cross-version, inheritance-resolved, whole-graph, checkout-free. It is a STATIC index with NO runtime/live data.

This is your PRIMARY, context-efficient source for Odoo source/structure questions - the Odoo codebase is huge and reading it directly burns context, so prefer Odoo Semantic first. Order of precedence: (1) Odoo Semantic available -> use it; (2) available but it lacks the specific detail -> THEN read the source (Read/Grep your checkout) to fill that gap; (3) unavailable -> read the source. Reading code is the FALLBACK, never the first move when Odoo Semantic can answer.

Do NOT use Odoo Semantic for:

  • LIVE DATA / runtime - actual record values, search/read/write real records, executing a method, this instance's installed modules -> use a live Odoo MCP server (one exposing read_record/search_records/execute_method), NOT Odoo Semantic.

Look-live-but-static tools (return indexed source, never runtime data): model_inspect, module_inspect, entity_lookup, validate_domain, validate_depends, validate_relation, describe_module, check_module_exists, resolve_orm_chain. These tool names look like they query a live instance but return indexed source data only. If you need live records, Odoo Semantic is the wrong server.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
