glab-token

glab-token is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from vince-winkintel/gitlab-cli-skills. It costs 54 tokens per session (804 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A command-line tool for managing GitLab access tokens, which are credentials used by programs or people to access GitLab projects and APIs.

In plain words
What is it for?
It helps manage personal, project, and group tokens in GitLab repositories.
Why use it?
It provides one place to create, view, revoke, and replace tokens instead of managing them manually.

SkillSpector: 6 findings, up to high

These are SkillSpector’s own severities. On a checked sample its high-severity flags on skills were ~96% false positives — a documented command, a public API, a “never do X” rule — so we show them as a caution to read, not a verdict. Why →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00054 $0.00804
Opus 5.5 $0.00022 $0.00322
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00011 $0.00161
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00080

Measured 2d ago against content hash 39d52a15e12a, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-10-07, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

glab-token scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

glab token

Capture key 685c1cbd7: checksum-verified macOS arm64 binary, source commit 685c1cbd74c882e0c93d7011657adde811582ed7; archive SHA-256 e77f5756c3c8d9ffeaef0bf234533f395680ab9f128a75cec4c1bd7a1049788c. Only fences marked 685c1cbd7 use this capture. Normalization removes trailing spaces/tabs only; indentation, blank lines, wrapping, truncation, and product spelling (including Gitlab) are preserved. Other fences retain their individual prior provenance.

Rotate the current credential

glab token rotate --self (alias rot) rotates the access token currently authenticating the selected host. It requires GitLab 17.9 or later and a token allowed to use the self-rotation endpoint. Confirm the host, visible actor, credential source, and every client sharing that token before approving rotation. The old secret stops working immediately; this is an operational credential write, not an authentication test.

Do not pass a token name/ID, --user, or --group with --self. Without --self, a token name/ID is required. Repository context can select the host; outside a checkout, the default host applies. Use an explicit trusted host context rather than assuming the current token belongs to the intended instance.

--duration defaults to 30d (maximum 365d; hours must be multiples of 24), and --expires-at YYYY-MM-DD is mutually exclusive with it. Expiry is at midnight UTC on the selected date. Default text output is the new secret; JSON output includes it too. Arrange a secure output destination before the approved command, disable shell tracing, and keep both forms out of logs and chat. The command does not persist the new token into glab's config/keyring or replace environment variables: update the approved credential store and dependent clients yourself. If output is lost or the result is uncertain, inspect/recover the credential state rather than blindly retrying rotation.

# Credential-free discovery only
glab token rotate --help
# After approval, capture the secret directly into the approved secure store:
# glab token rotate --self --duration 30d

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

glab-token is a skill published in the GitHub repository vince-winkintel/gitlab-cli-skills (49 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 54 tokens to every session and 804 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
