claude-code-primitives

claude-code-primitives is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from vscarpenter/gsd-task-manager. It costs 56 tokens per session (331 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A reference guide to Claude Code's commands, skills, subagents, and hooks. Claude Code is a coding assistant; these are the mechanisms it uses to organize and control work.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when creating or editing slash commands, skills, subagents, or hooks, or when deciding which one fits a workflow.
Why use it?
It helps choose the right mechanism for a task and explains how those mechanisms connect.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00056 $0.00331
Opus 5 $0.00028 $0.00166
Sonnet 5 $0.00011 $0.00066
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00033

Measured 3d ago against content hash 5e20adb48f83, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

claude-code-primitives scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Claude Code Primitives

  • Routing: Commands initiate, subagents verify, hooks gate.
  • Slash Commands (.claude/commands/): Short, repeatable actions. Canonical text of prompts lives here (e.g., /qspec, /tdd, /qcheck).
  • Skills (.claude/skills/): Complex multi-step workflows. Write descriptions as triggers ("when should I fire?"). Provide goals, constraints, and a "Gotchas" section.
  • Subagents (.claude/agents/): Spawn for fanning out or parallel reads. Skip for <3 tool calls. Read-only agents use haiku; write agents use sonnet/opus with isolation: worktree.
  • Agent teams vs subagents: Use subagents for scoped delegation inside one workstream. Use teams when work should split across longer-lived sessions that coordinate.
  • Hooks: Enforce standards mechanically (e.g., PostToolUse, Stop). Hook types: shell commands, prompt hooks, MCP tool hooks.
  • Hooks receive event data as JSON on stdin. Read fields with jq, for example .tool_input.file_path; do not rely on $CLAUDE_FILE_PATH style variables unless explicitly configured.
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
