Getting it into your agent
One page per mod, every tool's command on it. A separate URL per tool would split the same page into five that compete with each other.

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.
| Model | Per session | Once invoked |
|---|---|---|
| Fable 5.1 | $0.00085 | $0.01335 |
| Opus 5 | $0.00043 | $0.00668 |
| Sonnet 5 | $0.00017 | $0.00267 |
| Haiku 4.5 | $0.00009 | $0.00134 |
Grade A, and why
jira-setup scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.
A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.
Nothing flagged
None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.
How it starts
The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 100 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.
Connecting the Jira MCP server
This server talks to Jira Server / Data Center, authenticating a Personal Access Token as a Bearer token. It does not target Jira Cloud, which uses Basic auth with an API token and accountId. If the host is *.atlassian.net, this is the wrong server.
Credentials
Two environment variables, never hardcoded and never committed:
| Variable | Example | Notes |
|---|---|---|
JIRA_BASE_URL |
https://jira.example.com |
Required. No trailing path. |
JIRA_PAT |
— | Required. Jira → avatar → Profile → Personal Access Tokens → Create token. Shown once. |
Setting them at the OS level keeps the token out of every config file, which is what makes this shareable. On Windows, the user runs this themselves in their own terminal — never paste a real token into a shared file, a repo, or a chat:
setx JIRA_PAT "the-token"
setx JIRA_BASE_URL "https://jira.example.com"
setx persists for new processes, so restart the terminal and Claude Code afterward. Verify with echo %JIRA_PAT% in a fresh shell.
Or a config file
If environment variables are awkward, credentials can live in a JSON file instead. Resolution order, first hit wins:
JIRA_BASE_URL/JIRA_PATenvironment variables- the path in
JIRA_MCP_CONFIG .jira-mcp.jsonin the user's home folderjira-mcp.config.jsonbesideserver.jsor the executable
{ "baseUrl": "https://jira.example.com", "pat": "your-personal-access-token" }
The startup banner reports which source was used, never the value. credentials: none means nothing resolved.
Never write a token into the plugin's .mcp.json. That file ships inside the distributable .plugin and would be shared with every recipient. Use one of the four locations above.
Never ask the user to paste their token into the conversation, and never write a real token into a file yourself. Give the command or show the file format, and let the user fill in the value.
What this file has done since we first saw it
Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

jira-setup is a skill published in the GitHub repository wyckit/jira-mcp (0 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 85 tokens to every session and 1,335 once invoked, about $0.0004 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
