claude-code

A guide for running Claude Code, Anthropic’s coding assistant, from a terminal. It covers one-off commands, interactive sessions, and background jobs.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to ask Claude Code to fix bugs, add features, review changes, extract data, or handle longer coding tasks.
Why use it?
It helps choose the right way to delegate work and operate Claude Code across macOS, Linux, Windows, and CI environments.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00049 $0.01352
Opus 5 $0.00024 $0.00676
Sonnet 5 $0.00010 $0.00270
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00135

Measured 2d ago against content hash a480900d1646, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

claude-code scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 80 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

Claude Code Delegation

Delegate coding work to Claude Code, Anthropic's autonomous coding agent CLI.

Setup (once): npm install -g @anthropic-ai/claude-code && claude auth login · verify with claude auth status / claude doctor. CI token: claude setup-token. Full auth/install variants → references/flags.md.

Platform check (before running anything): detect the OS first. All shell examples in this skill are POSIX (bash). Linux/macOS run them as-is. On Windows, run Claude Code natively in PowerShell/Git Bash for print and background modes, but interactive tmux orchestration requires WSL. Shell-syntax translation table (quoting, env vars, piping, paths) → references/platforms.md.

Mode Selection (decide FIRST)

Task shape Mode Why
One-shot task: fix bug, add feature, review diff, extract data Print -p ← default No PTY, no dialogs, structured output
Multi-turn iterate: refactor → review → fix → test; needs slash commands Interactive tmuxreferences/interactive-tmux.md Full REPL, requires dialog handling
Long-running, shouldn't block; large fan-out supervision Background --bg Native supervision via claude agents
High-stakes PR review claude ultrareview [pr#] Cloud multi-agent, exit-code driven (uploads diff to cloud — never on branches with secrets)

Do NOT hand-roll tmux fan-outs for parallel work — prefer --bg + claude agents --json --all.

terminal(command="claude -p 'Fix the auth bug in src/auth.py' \
  --allowedTools 'Read,Edit' --max-turns 10 --output-format json",
  workdir="/path/to/project", timeout=180)

Always set: workdir · --max-turns (5–10; print-mode only) · --allowedTools (least privilege: Read,Edit,Write,Bash, patterns like Bash(git *)).

JSON result fields: result (text) · session_id (for resume) · subtype (success | error_max_turns | error_budget) · total_cost_usd · num_turns · structured_output (with --json-schema).

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
