news-writing-guide is a skill for Claude Code from xonovex/platform. It costs 74 tokens per session (383 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to researching and writing current news articles, including structured multilingual Markdown files. It covers checking claims against multiple sources, limiting the time period, and keeping translated versions factually aligned.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to research, verify, draft, translate, and validate news posts with required frontmatter and language-specific files.
Why use it?
It helps prevent unsupported news claims, stale reporting, and translations that add facts not present in the source. It also keeps publication details and file structure consistent.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00074 $0.00383
Opus 5.5 $0.00030 $0.00153
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00015 $0.00077
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00038

Security

Grade A, and why

news-writing-guide scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

News Writing Guidelines

Research current developments and produce verified news files that meet the publication contract.

Editorial voice and multilingual prose are owned by editorial-writing-guide. Load it with this skill and apply its fact-preserving editorial rules to every article.

Core Principles

  • Verify before drafting: Confirm each central claim through at least three credible sources
  • Use a bounded lookback: Apply the requested date range and default to seven days
  • Write one source version: Verify one article before translating it into other languages
  • Preserve publication structure: Produce one file per language with matching facts and required frontmatter
  • Record freshness: Keep publication and research dates explicit so current claims can be checked again

Operations

Gotchas

  • One source is not triangulation. Defer or reject a story when its central claim lacks support.
  • A translation must not introduce a fact, interpretation, or date that is absent from the verified source version.
  • A royalty-free image still needs a valid license and topic fit. Do not assume a search result grants reuse.
  • Check for an existing slug before writing files. Do not silently overwrite an earlier story.

Progressive Disclosure

  • Read references/create.md - Load when researching, drafting, translating, or saving current news stories
Files

What ships with it

5 files beside SKILL.md in the same directory: the scripts, references and assets a skill reads on demand. Not counted in the per-session cost; read them before you install if any of them is executable.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
