decompose-research-question

decompose-research-question is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from yogsoth-ai/de-anthropocentric-research-engine. It costs 27 tokens per session (484 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A cause-analysis method that organizes possible causes of an observed effect into named families, such as method, data, measurement, researcher, and environment. It links each cause to evidence or a test.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to build a structured cause map, record evidence status, and identify testable explanations for an outcome.
Why use it?
It helps investigate complex problems without reducing them to a single suspected cause. Unsupported or untestable causes remain visible as uncertainties.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00027 $0.00484
Opus 5.5 $0.00011 $0.00194
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00005 $0.00097
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00048

Security

Grade A, and why

decompose-research-question scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

decompose-research-question

Purpose

Decompose a complex RQ into MECE subquestions, map dependencies, and schedule the answering order.

Input contract

required: [research_question, scope_constraints, dependency_evidence]
optional: [assumptions, prior_findings, evidence_updates]
constraints: [consume named scientific objects; preserve provenance; keep unresolved uncertainty visible]

Execution protocol

Do not perform called SOP operations inline; each loaded SOP owns its contract and thresholds.

  1. You MUST load skill generate-subquestions to generate answerable subquestions.
  2. You MUST load skill map-dependencies to map their evidence and logical dependencies.
  3. You MUST load skill sequence-work to sequence the dependent research work.

Deviation: reorder only when a dependency is already satisfied or unavailable; record the reason and confidence effect.

Output contract

produces: [subquestion_set, dependency_map, answering_sequence]
delta_fields: [open_questions]

Thresholds and quality gates

  • Each output is traceable to an input object, operation, and evidence reference.
  • Scope, assumptions, and unresolved alternatives remain explicit.
  • Retain $\alpha$ 0.05 and power 0.8 wherever the predeclared statistical design requires them.

Failure and counterexamples

Stop synthesis when a required object is absent, a precondition is violated, or a counterexample invalidates the proposed conclusion; return the partial delta with the failure recorded.

Provenance map

  • resolved: decomposition-formulation
  • resolved: sub-question-decomposition

Preserved source criteria ledger

source criterion treatment
resolved v3 entries above node-specific criteria retained and specialized to the v4 object contract
experiment-execution/statistical-testing $\alpha$ = 0.05 fixed value retained where applicable
experiment-execution/sample-size-estimation power = 0.8 fixed value retained where applicable

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

decompose-research-question is a skill published in the GitHub repository yogsoth-ai/de-anthropocentric-research-engine (505 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 27 tokens to every session and 484 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-24.
