trim

trim is a skill for Claude Code from younnieCutler/japan-career-agent. It costs 35 tokens per session (388 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A shortening pass for career documents that removes unnecessary words while keeping evidence, sources, uncertainty, and confidentiality wording intact.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to shorten a resume, application document, or other career artifact when the user requests a shorter version or faces a real length limit.
Why use it?
It helps make a document shorter without weakening claims, changing who did what, or losing important limits. The original document remains unchanged for comparison.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00035 $0.00388
Opus 5 $0.00017 $0.00194
Sonnet 5 $0.00007 $0.00078
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00039

Security

Grade A, and why

trim scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

trim — load-bearing artifact compression

Use only when the user requests a shorter artifact or a real length constraint makes compression necessary. A long document is not automatically bloated.

Goal

Produce a new non-canonical artifact with the same supported meaning and less padding. The original artifact remains untouched so the user can compare the change.

Workflow

  1. Read the complete artifact and identify the claims and rules every section must preserve.
  2. Cut padding, repeated process prose, and empty qualifiers in place.
  3. Preserve employer, period, role, action, individual contribution, team result, metric, source, uncertainty, confidentiality, and approval wording exactly in strength.
  4. Write a new relative output only after confirming the input exists.
  5. Hand the new artifact to the following verify check.

Rules

  • Never create or estimate a metric.
  • Never turn Unknown into a claim, or team_result into individual_contribution.
  • Never overwrite the source artifact or canonical Vault state.
  • If the problem is stale content or duplicated sources, stop and report that re0/ssotize would be a different operation; neither is part of this plan.
  • This Skill is user-invoked and never invokes another Skill.

Verification

Report the input and new output paths, preserved claim categories, and the exact deterministic check that must run next. If no genuine bloat exists, make no output and report why.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

trim is a skill published in the GitHub repository younnieCutler/japan-career-agent (6 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 35 tokens to every session and 388 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
