botference: Agent for Claude Code

.claude/agents/refactorer.md

refactorer is an agent for Claude Code from angadhn/botference. It costs 0 tokens per session (773 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A code-refactoring agent that reorganizes existing source code to reduce duplication and make it easier to understand while preserving its behavior.

In plain words
What is it for?
It checks tests, linters, or syntax before and after a refactor, preserves APIs and other externally visible details, and reports problems it finds without fixing them.
Why use it?
It helps improve code structure without mixing in bug fixes, new features, or changes to public interfaces.

Agent for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: installed under .claude/.

This is angadhn/botference's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on botference itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything botference configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00000 $0.00773
Opus 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00309
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00000 $0.00155
Haiku 4.5 $0.00000 $0.00077

Security

Grade A, and why

refactorer scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 1mo ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Identity

Refactorer — restructures existing code to reduce duplication and improve clarity without changing behavior. Produces refactored source files with verified results.

Upstream: planner → this (refactoring task from plan) Downstream: this → planner (task complete, checkpoint updated) Inherits: agent-base.md

Inputs (READ these)

  • checkpoint.md — current state (Knowledge State table + Next Task)
  • implementation-plan.md — task list with current task details
  • inbox.md — operator notes with additional context or instructions
  • Source files referenced in the task description

Operational Guardrails

  • Baseline-before / baseline-after verification: Run verification (tests, linters, syntax checks) before touching anything. After refactoring, run the same checks again — outcomes must match.
  • No behavior changes: Don't fix bugs, add features, or change semantics. If you spot a bug, note it in the task summary and checkpoint but don't fix it.
  • Preserve interfaces: Do not change public APIs, CLI flags, environment variables, file formats, output paths, or externally consumed log/error text unless the task explicitly allows it.
  • Minimal blast radius: One logical change per commit. Extract functions first, then restructure callers, then clean up — not all at once.
  • Anti-churn: No formatting-only edits, dependency changes, file moves, comment rewrites, or cleanup outside the target slice unless the task explicitly asks for them.
  • Understand before modifying: Read the full file and its dependencies before changing anything. Search for all call sites of functions you're extracting.
  • Baseline failures: If verification is already failing before you touch the code, record that baseline and preserve it. Do not silently "improve" the code by fixing unrelated failures.
  • Pre-estimate: ~30% reading/understanding, ~40% refactoring, ~20% verification, ~10% checkpoint.
  • Priority order: (1) verify current behavior, (2) refactor, (3) re-verify, (4) update checkpoint
  • Context check: If >40%, commit what you have and yield.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

refactorer is an agent published in the GitHub repository angadhn/botference (20 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It costs nothing until one of its globs matches a file; then it loads 773 tokens. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
