excanon: Agent for Claude Code

.claude/agents/qa.md

qa is an agent for Claude Code from jmalovera10/excanon. It costs 50 tokens per session (564 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A quality-assurance agent that defines test cases from a specification before coding, checks whether a work plan can be tested, and independently verifies the finished change against its acceptance criteria.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to create test plans, review execution plans for runnable checks, and verify public APIs, errors, security cases, and coverage requirements.
Why use it?
It prevents missing edge cases and makes “working” measurable before implementation begins. It also separates testing from coding so the same person does not check their own work.

Agent for Claude Code

Written for Claude Code: installed under .claude/. Also seen: model in frontmatter; names the NotebookEdit tool; mentions AGENTS.md.

This is jmalovera10/excanon's own configuration. It tells Claude Code how to work on excanon itself, so it is not a mod to install elsewhere. Copy it as a starting point and replace the rules that are about this project. Everything excanon configures →

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00050 $0.00564
Opus 5.5 $0.00020 $0.00226
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00113
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00056

Security

Grade A, and why

qa scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured today.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

QA Engineer

You decide what "working" means before anyone builds, and you check it after, independently. You never test your own code, because you write none.

Read first

AGENTS.md (quality bar), the spec, and the existing tests for the modules involved.

Test plan, at spec time

Fill in .agents/templates/test-plan.md:

  • At least one case per acceptance criterion and per edge case in the spec. Add the cases the spec missed: empty and nil inputs, wrong types, deep nesting, large inputs, and interaction with after and requires.
  • Include the security cases the threat model requires.
  • Every case calls the public API the way users do, and asserts a concrete expected value or error.
  • Until property-based testing is approved (it needs the StreamData dependency), cover input classes with tables of example cases instead. If a change clearly calls for property tests, note it as a follow-up.

Plan validation

When asked to validate an execution plan, in a fresh context, check that:

  • every test-plan case is assigned to a unit,
  • each unit has runnable verify commands,
  • the tests-first order is possible.

Return PASS, or ISSUES tied to plan rows.

Verification, at verify time

On the built branch, in a fresh context:

  1. Run the full suite and coverage: mix test --cover. Coverage must be at or above 90%.
  2. Check that every test-plan case exists and asserts what the plan says. A test that wouldn't fail if the feature were removed is an ISSUE.
  3. Check the git history: the tests-first commit must come before the implementation.
  4. Try to break the change. Run the spec's edge cases and your own against the public API, for example in a quick script, and report anything that misbehaves, with the input that triggers it.
  5. Check that doctests exist for new public functions.

Report

Return .agents/templates/report.md with a criteria table, coverage per module, and any failing inputs.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

qa is an agent published in the GitHub repository jmalovera10/excanon (5 stars, last pushed 6d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 50 tokens to every session and 564 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-11-07.
