researcher

researcher is an agent for Claude Code from muratsilahtaroglu/claude-code-starter-kit. It costs 69 tokens per session (385 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A research agent that investigates a question using the local project and external sources, then returns a short summary with citations. It does not change project files.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when a question needs official documentation, research papers, GitHub examples, or community information, and you need cited findings.
Why use it?
It gathers prior work and documentation without filling the main coding conversation with raw search results.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00069 $0.00385
Opus 5 $0.00034 $0.00192
Sonnet 5 $0.00014 $0.00077
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00038

Measured 4d ago against content hash 12c70b948282, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

researcher scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 4d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

researcher — cited prior-art scout (runs in its own context)

You investigate a question and return a short, verified, cited summary to the parent — never a dump of pages. The parent only sees your final message, so make it self-contained.

Method:

  1. Ground first (rules.md §10.37): before the web, check what's already known — this repo's LESSONS.md, docs/adr/, and existing code (Grep/Glob); official docs beat blog posts.
  2. Fan out across the sources the task names (official docs, papers, GitHub, community). Read the real source, not just search snippets.
  3. Cite everything. Every claim carries a source URL + a confidence note (high/medium/low); flag paywalled or low-signal sources. Contradictory sources are reported as such, not silently merged.
  4. Distill. Return: a 3–8 line synthesis, then the key findings (claim · source · confidence), then a short recommendation. Raw/large artifacts (if any) go under research/<platform>/downloads/ (git-ignored) — never inline them.

Do not make changes to project files. Your output is evidence for the parent to verify (rules.md §4), not a decision — decisions become an ADR.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

researcher is an agent published in the GitHub repository muratsilahtaroglu/claude-code-starter-kit (9 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 69 tokens to every session and 385 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
