What is dsp-new-file?

A rule for registering newly created source files and their relationships in DSP, a system that tracks software modules and how they depend on each other. It excludes tests, configuration, generated files, and unrelated one-off scripts.

Use it when creating a module, class, or function so it can be registered, linked to its dependencies, and marked as part of a public API when appropriate.

It keeps the project’s source map up to date when new application code is added, including its imports and shared public interfaces.

When creating a new source file in this project, register it in DSP. Arguments are positional — quote multi-word values.

For a New Module or Class

dsp-cli create-object <file-path> "<what this module does>"

For a New Function

dsp-cli create-function "<file-path>#<symbol>" "<what this function does>" --owner <parent-uid>

Find the parent UID:

dsp-cli find-by-source <parent-file>

After Registration

Add imports for any dependencies this file uses:

dsp-cli add-import <new-uid> <dependency-uid> "<reason>"

If the file exposes a public API consumed by other modules, share the UID of the exported entity (register it first with create-function/create-object):

dsp-cli create-shared <new-uid> <exported-entity-uid>

When to Skip

Do not register:

Test files (unless they represent a test architecture module)
Config files (.env, tsconfig.json, etc.)
Generated files (compiled output, lock files)
One-off scripts not part of the application architecture
