2-osp-literature

2-osp-literature is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from amirkiarafiei/open-scholar-peer. It costs 26 tokens per session (1,329 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A literature-search step for finding outside research about a paper's topic, methods, and recent developments. It runs one search round at a time and reports the results.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to expand a paper's reading list by searching its subfield, technical method, or recent work.
Why use it?
It reduces the manual work of finding relevant papers across research databases and the web. Running one round at a time lets you decide whether to search further.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00026 $0.01329
Opus 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00532
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00005 $0.00266
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00133

Security

Grade A, and why

2-osp-literature scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 22d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

/2-osp-literature — Literature Review & Expansion

Runs ONE round of external retrieval per invocation. Three rounds are recommended; the user decides how many to run. After each round it reports what it found and offers both routes: another round, or move on.

Activation

Invoke the osp-literature-review-agent skill.

Inputs — none of these is a gate

  • phases.summary.status == "completed" and 01_structured_summary.md exists. Without it, read .brain/input/paper.md and derive the query terms yourself; say in Provenance that you did.
  • Rounds run in order (1 → 2 → 3) because each strategy builds on the last. How many you run is the user's choice — one round is a valid, thinner corpus, not an error.

Resource notice

⚠️ Each invocation makes ~8-12 API calls across whichever databases this project installed, plus native web search. Expect 1-3 minutes per round.

Round definitions

# Anchor Goal
1 sub-domain-anchor Search using the paper's stated sub-domain and primary keywords
2 method-anchor Search using the method's name and key technical terms
3 temporal-expansion Filter to last 12 months; include arXiv pre-prints, concurrent submissions

Opening block (print before the round starts)

Render the opening block exactly as .agents/defaults/phase_block_template.md defines it — that file holds the rail, the rules and the widths, and is the only place they are written down. This is phase 3 of 7 (literature); the rail carries ◐ while rounds remain. Values:

DOING <the anchor for this round, in one line>
  READS .brain/raw/01_structured_summary.md
  WRITES .brain/raw/02<a|b|c>_literature_round<N>.md
  COST ~1-3 min, ~8-12 searches

Steps

  1. Read .brain/session.json.
    • Determine next_round = phases.literature.rounds_completed + 1 (default 0 → next = 1).
    • If next_round > 3, all three recommended rounds are done: consolidate if that has not happened yet, and point at /3-osp-historian.
    • If any earlier round file is missing, resume from that round instead.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

2-osp-literature is a skill published in the GitHub repository amirkiarafiei/open-scholar-peer (48 stars, last pushed 12d ago), licensed MIT. It adds 26 tokens to every session and 1,329 once invoked, about $0.0001 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-24.
