quickbooks

quickbooks is a skill for Claude Code from apideck-libraries/api-skills. It costs 71 tokens per session (2,743 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

An integration guide for connecting to QuickBooks Online, an accounting service for managing invoices, bills, payments, ledger accounts, and journal entries. It uses Apideck's shared interface for accounting software.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to read, create, update, and reconcile invoices, bills, payments, ledger accounts, and journal entries in QuickBooks Online.
Why use it?
It reduces the service-specific connection work required to exchange accounting data with QuickBooks. The same code can be adapted to other accounting systems by changing one service setting.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00071 $0.02743
Opus 5.5 $0.00028 $0.01097
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00014 $0.00549
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00274

Security

Grade A, and why

quickbooks scanned grade A with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 7d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

QuickBooks (via Apideck)

Access QuickBooks through Apideck's Accounting unified API — one of 34 Accounting connectors that share the same method surface. Code you write here ports to Access Financials, Acumatica, banqUP and 30 other Accounting connectors by changing a single serviceId string. Apideck handles auth, pagination, rate limiting, and retries so you don't write per-tenant QuickBooks plumbing.

Quick facts

At a glance

  • Implementation difficulty: moderate — Self-Service Signup + App Review Required
  • Vendor partnership required: yes (Intuit Developer Portal) — Intuit Developer Account required (free, self-service).
  • Apideck-managed credentials: available — OAuth shows "Apideck" as the requesting application.
  • Account type required: QuickBooks Online (Simple Start, Essentials, Plus, or Advanced)
  • Consumer access level: Any user with QuickBooks Online access (Admin recommended for full data access)
  • Sandbox: available (signup) — Free sandbox via Intuit Developer Portal (up to 10 companies, valid for 2 years).
  • Costs: Reads are metered, writes are not: Builder is free with 500K CorePlus calls/month then blocks; Silver $300/month includes 1M.
  • Rate limits: 500 requests/minute per company (realm) and 10 concurrent requests/second per realm and app. Enforced on every tier; upgrading does not raise them.
  • Authentication: Authorization Code flow.
  • Webhooks: Native — invoice, customer, and payment events (20+ event types)

Important to know:

  • Only successful production calls (list/get-one, query, reports, attachment downloads) count as CorePlus; sandbox/OAuth never do. Builder's free cap blocks calls outright until reset, not throttled — a payment method moves you to Silver, which bills overage instead.
  • Intuit's platform fees fall on whoever owns the Intuit app, not on the end QuickBooks company. Apideck-provided credentials are for evaluation and testing; a production integration uses your own Intuit app, so the tier and any fees are yours.
  • The projects resource is served by Intuit's Projects API, which is a Premium API available only to Silver, Gold and Platinum partners. On the free Builder tier this resource is unavailable regardless of your CorePlus allowance.
  • Intuit refresh tokens expire after 100 days of inactivity and, since a November 2025 policy change, after a hard maximum of 5 years regardless of activity. Dormant and aged-out connections need consumer re-authorization.
  • Intuit sometimes returns errors on healthy connections: a SystemFault, a company lockout (codes 100/140, LOCKED_BY_SERVER) or a 400 Permission Denied (code 5020). Apideck treats these as transient and keeps the connection valid, so no reconnect is needed. Retry after a backoff.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

quickbooks is a skill published in the GitHub repository apideck-libraries/api-skills (5 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed Apache-2.0. It adds 71 tokens to every session and 2,743 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 1 finding (makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
