git-workflow-helper

git-workflow-helper is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from davidmatousek/tachi. It costs 71 tokens per session (2,018 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A helper for routine Git tasks, including checking repository status, creating branches, staging files, preparing commit messages, and opening pull requests. Git is a system for tracking code changes.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to inspect local and unpushed changes, create feature or fix branches, stage work, generate conventional commit messages, and create pull requests with the GitHub CLI.
Why use it?
It reduces errors in the steps between editing code and proposing those changes for review.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00071 $0.02018
Opus 5 $0.00036 $0.01009
Sonnet 5 $0.00014 $0.00404
Haiku 4.5 $0.00007 $0.00202

Measured 5d ago against content hash 1130e98dd6fa, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-08-30, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

git-workflow-helper scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Git Workflow Helper Skill

Purpose

Automates common git workflow tasks while enforcing best practices and commit standards. Implements FR-008 from the feature specification. Follows constitutional requirement for feature branching and proper git workflow.

How It Works

Step 1: Git Status Check

Always start with status to understand current state:

# Check git status
git status

# Check branch name
git branch --show-current

# Check for uncommitted changes
git diff --stat
git diff --cached --stat

# Check unpushed commits
git log @{u}.. --oneline

Report:

📊 Git Status

Branch: feature/new-feature
Tracking: origin/feature/new-feature

Changes:
  Modified: 3 files
  Staged: 1 file
  Untracked: 2 files

Unpushed commits: 2

Files:
  M src/api/users.ts
  M tests/users.test.ts
  ?? docs/API.md

Step 2: Branch Creation

Create feature branch following naming conventions:

# Feature branch
git checkout -b feature/feature-name

# Bug fix branch
git checkout -b fix/bug-description

# Documentation branch
git checkout -b docs/topic

# Test branch
git checkout -b test/test-description

# Refactor branch
git checkout -b refactor/refactor-description

Step 3: Stage Files

Intelligently stage relevant files:

# Stage specific files
git add src/api/users.ts src/models/user.ts

# Stage all in directory
git add src/

# Check what will be committed
git diff --cached

Avoid staging:

  • Build artifacts (dist/, build/)
  • Dependencies (node_modules/)
  • Secrets (.env, credentials.json)
  • Temporary files (*.tmp, *.log)

Step 4: Generate Conventional Commit Message

Follow conventional commit format:

Format: <type>(<scope>): <description>

Types:

  • feat: New feature
  • fix: Bug fix
  • docs: Documentation only
  • style: Formatting changes
  • refactor: Code restructuring
  • test: Adding/updating tests
  • chore: Build process or auxiliary tools

Example Generation:

Analyze staged changes:

git diff --cached --name-only
# Output:
# src/api/users.ts
# src/models/user.ts
# tests/users.test.ts

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
