motion-design

motion-design is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Dragoon0x/taste-skills. It costs 47 tokens per session (355 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A set of rules for using animation to communicate changes in an interface. It covers motion for feedback, orientation, emphasis, and brief moments of delight.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when evaluating animations, designing interface transitions, or deciding whether a visual effect helps users understand what happened.
Why use it?
It helps prevent distracting, slow, or unnecessary animations. It also provides guidance for choosing timing and movement that fit the job.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00047 $0.00355
Opus 5 $0.00023 $0.00178
Sonnet 5 $0.00009 $0.00071
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00036

Security

Grade A, and why

motion-design scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 10d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Motion Design

Animation serves four purposes. If it doesn't serve one of them, remove it.

How to use

  • /motion-design Apply motion design constraints to this conversation.

Constraints

The Four Purposes

  1. Feedback (50-150ms): Confirms an action was received. Button press, toggle, form submit.
  2. Orientation (200-400ms): Shows spatial relationships. Sidebar slides in, modal scales from trigger.
  3. Emphasis (300-600ms): Draws attention. Notification pulse, new element fade-in. Rare and meaningful.
  4. Delight (variable): Emotional effect. Loading personality, completion celebration. Brief, skippable, never blocking.
  • MUST categorize every animation by purpose. If it fits none, remove it.

Taste Signals in Motion

  • Restraint. The best-animated interfaces are ones where you don't notice the animation.
  • Consistent easing curves across the entire system.
  • Physics-based movement (ease-out for arrival, ease-in for departure, never linear for UI).
  • Duration proportional to purpose: more functional = faster.

Anti-Patterns

  • Loading animations that last longer than the actual load
  • Page transitions that delay content access
  • Hover effects on every element (motion should guide attention, not create noise)
  • Bouncy/elastic easing on functional elements (playful easing is for celebrations, not navigation)
  • Motion for motion's sake
Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

motion-design is a skill published in the GitHub repository Dragoon0x/taste-skills (4 stars, last pushed 6mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 47 tokens to every session and 355 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
