burst-safety

burst-safety is a skill for Claude Code from dyCuong03/unity-agent-team. It costs 50 tokens per session (960 once invoked), scanned B, original, MIT.

A set of rules for writing Unity DOTS code that can run with Burst, Unity's compiler for high-performance native-style code. It covers allowed data types, mathematics, state, dispatch, and logging in Burst-compiled code.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when reviewing or writing DOTS jobs and ISystem code, especially code marked for Burst compilation.
Why use it?
Burst code rejects or mishandles many ordinary managed-language features, such as strings, classes, reflection, and mutable shared state. These rules help prevent compilation errors and unsafe access in performance-critical jobs.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00050 $0.00960
Opus 5.5 $0.00020 $0.00384
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00010 $0.00192
Haiku 4.5 $0.00005 $0.00096

Security

Grade B, and why

burst-safety scanned grade B with 1 finding against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 11d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Strips warnings and disclaimersmediumAnti-refusal

Omitting safety caveats hides risk from the user and is a common jailbreak preamble.

the method compiles without warnings.

Burst Safety

This is a skill pack, not an agent. Load when triage marks domain=DOTS|Hybrid.

Hard Rules (do not violate without architect approval)

  1. No managed types in [BurstCompile] code paths. No string, List<T>, Dictionary<K,V>, class, object, boxed value types, delegates, or try/catch (managed exceptions).
  2. No static mutable state. Statics must be readonly and reference only blittable types. [BurstCompile] does not see managed singletons.
  3. No reflection. typeof(T).GetField(...), Activator.CreateInstance, Marshal.* — all forbidden inside burst.
  4. No virtual dispatch. No interface calls on instances; use static methods, generic constraints, or function pointers.
  5. fixed blocks must use UnsafeUtility.AddressOf for managed objects — in practice this means do not need fixed at all in burst code.
  6. Math: prefer Unity.Mathematics. math.sin, math.length, float3/int3, not Mathf.* or Vector3 (those are managed wrappers).
  7. Debug.Log is forbidden in [BurstCompile] methods. Use UnityEngine.Debug.Log only outside burst, or [BurstDiscard] on a small log helper called from non-hot paths.

Diagnostic Checklist Before Signaling Verifier

For every system or job you wrote or modified:

  • [BurstCompile] is still on the method/struct if it was there before. Removing it requires [BLOCK: performance] escalation.
  • Burst Inspector (or BurstCompiler.Enable = false toggle test) shows the method compiles without warnings.
  • No string, List, Dictionary field added.
  • No try/catch in [BurstCompile] body.
  • No Debug.Log introduced in the hot path.
  • If you needed scratch memory: NativeArray<T> with explicit Allocator.Temp (frame-scoped) or Allocator.TempJob (job-scoped), and disposed in the same frame/job.

Common Burst Bugs (do not repeat)

Symptom Cause
"Burst error BC1015: Could not statically evaluate Type" passing object or Type arg into burst method
"BC1042: Burst can not handle a fixed buffer of type" char buffer or unsafe fixed array
Silent failure: code runs but no Burst speedup [BurstCompile] was on a generic method without a concrete dispatch point
Cosmetic Mathf vs math mismatch Mathf.PI is a static readonly float managed access — replace with math.PI

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

burst-safety is a skill published in the GitHub repository dyCuong03/unity-agent-team (7 stars, last pushed 2mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 50 tokens to every session and 960 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it B with 1 finding (strips warnings and disclaimers). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-10-02.
