research-frontmatter

research-frontmatter is a skill for Claude Code from joaquimscosta/arkhe-claude-plugins. It costs 64 tokens per session (854 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A validator for YAML frontmatter in research documents. YAML frontmatter is the metadata block at the top of a document; this tool checks required fields and can identify stale research files.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when creating, editing, or checking research documents, including checking required titles, versions, statuses, and dates or running a staleness check.
Why use it?
It keeps research metadata consistent so GitHub can display it and readers can judge whether the information may be out of date. It also finds the research directory in projects using the Johnny.Decimal folder system.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00064 $0.00854
Opus 5.5 $0.00026 $0.00342
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00013 $0.00171
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00085

Security

Grade A, and why

research-frontmatter scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 3 executable files (scripts/resolve_research_path.py, scripts/shared.py, scripts/validate_research_docs.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Research Frontmatter

Enforce standard YAML frontmatter on research documents so GitHub renders metadata as a table and readers can judge staleness.

Quick Start

# Validate all research documents
uv run ${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/scripts/validate_research_docs.py --format text

# Check staleness only
uv run ${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/scripts/validate_research_docs.py --staleness-only

# Resolve research path (JD-aware)
uv run ${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/scripts/resolve_research_path.py --format json

# Override research directory
uv run ${CLAUDE_SKILL_DIR}/scripts/validate_research_docs.py --research-dir docs/30-research

Required Frontmatter

Every research file MUST have these 5 fields:

---
title: "Human-readable title"
version: "1.0.0"
status: Published # Published | Draft | Living Document
created: YYYY-MM-DD
last_updated: YYYY-MM-DD
---

Optional fields (slug, tags, aliases, promoted_at, last_refreshed, sources) MAY follow.

JD-Aware Path Resolution

The skill auto-detects Johnny.Decimal structure:

  1. Look for .jd-config.json at project root
  2. Find area containing "research" (default: prefix 30)
  3. Construct path: {root}/{prefix}-{name}/ (e.g. docs/30-research/)
  4. Fall back to docs/research/ if no JD config

This applies to both validation and the deep-research promote workflow.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
