todo-write

todo-write is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from nexu-io/open-design. It costs 15 tokens per session (195 once invoked), scanned A, original, Apache-2.0.

A planning step that makes the agent write a numbered task list before creating files. Each task is kept small and is marked complete only after its result exists.

In plain words
What is it for?
Organising non-trivial generation work, tracking artifact creation, reordering tasks, and recording blockers.
Why use it?
It gives the work a visible sequence and makes unfinished tasks or blockers harder to overlook.

About the project

OpenDesign is an open-source, local-first desktop app that lets coding agents create prototypes, dashboards, slide decks, images, video, and design systems as exportable files. It is used by people working with agent runtimes such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and DeepSeek Harness. The catalogue add-ons extend the OpenDesign workflow with skills, instructions, commands, and plugins.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00015 $0.00195
Opus 5 $0.00008 $0.00097
Sonnet 5 $0.00003 $0.00039
Haiku 4.5 $0.00002 $0.00019

Security

Grade A, and why

todo-write scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 2d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Todo write

Before writing any artifact files, the agent commits to a numbered plan via the TodoWrite tool. The plan is the audit trail; subsequent turns either tick items off or rewrite the plan. The atom's prompt fragment teaches the agent to:

  1. Keep todos atomic (one verb per todo).
  2. Reorder freely as the picture sharpens.
  3. Mark a todo complete only after the matching artifact lands.
  4. Surface blockers as todos — never silently skip.

The OpenDesign daemon does not enforce a particular tool name; the agent is free to use TodoWrite (Claude Code) or an in-prompt list. The atom's job is to keep "make a plan first" in the system prompt so non-trivial workflows don't skip the planning step.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
