threejs-animation

threejs-animation is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from OpenCoven/coven. It costs 40 tokens per session (3,259 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guide to animating 3D objects with Three.js, a JavaScript library for displaying 3D graphics in web pages. It covers keyframes, character skeletons, shape changes, and blended animations.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to rotate or move objects, play animations from GLTF 3D files, create motion with code, and switch or blend between animations.
Why use it?
It helps you choose and connect Three.js’s animation parts instead of building playback and motion logic from scratch.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00040 $0.03259
Opus 5 $0.00020 $0.01630
Sonnet 5 $0.00008 $0.00652
Haiku 4.5 $0.00004 $0.00326

Security

Grade A, and why

threejs-animation scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 5d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Three.js Animation

Quick Start

import * as THREE from "three";

// Simple procedural animation
const clock = new THREE.Clock();

function animate() {
  const delta = clock.getDelta();
  const elapsed = clock.getElapsedTime();

  mesh.rotation.y += delta;
  mesh.position.y = Math.sin(elapsed) * 0.5;

  requestAnimationFrame(animate);
  renderer.render(scene, camera);
}
animate();

Animation System Overview

Three.js animation system has three main components:

  1. AnimationClip - Container for keyframe data
  2. AnimationMixer - Plays animations on a root object
  3. AnimationAction - Controls playback of a clip

AnimationClip

Stores keyframe animation data.

// Create animation clip
const times = [0, 1, 2]; // Keyframe times (seconds)
const values = [0, 1, 0]; // Values at each keyframe

const track = new THREE.NumberKeyframeTrack(
  ".position[y]", // Property path
  times,
  values,
);

const clip = new THREE.AnimationClip("bounce", 2, [track]);

KeyframeTrack Types

// Number track (single value)
new THREE.NumberKeyframeTrack(".opacity", times, [1, 0]);
new THREE.NumberKeyframeTrack(".material.opacity", times, [1, 0]);

// Vector track (position, scale)
new THREE.VectorKeyframeTrack(".position", times, [
  0, 0, 0, // t=0
  1, 2, 0, // t=1
  0, 0, 0, // t=2
]);

// Quaternion track (rotation)
const q1 = new THREE.Quaternion().setFromEuler(new THREE.Euler(0, 0, 0));
const q2 = new THREE.Quaternion().setFromEuler(new THREE.Euler(0, Math.PI, 0));
new THREE.QuaternionKeyframeTrack(
  ".quaternion",
  [0, 1],
  [q1.x, q1.y, q1.z, q1.w, q2.x, q2.y, q2.z, q2.w],
);

// Color track
new THREE.ColorKeyframeTrack(".material.color", times, [
  1, 0, 0, // red
  0, 1, 0, // green
  0, 0, 1, // blue
]);

// Boolean track
new THREE.BooleanKeyframeTrack(".visible", [0, 0.5, 1], [true, false, true]);

// String track (for morph targets)
new THREE.StringKeyframeTrack(
  ".morphTargetInfluences[smile]",
  [0, 1],
  ["0", "1"],
);

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

threejs-animation is a skill published in the GitHub repository OpenCoven/coven (46 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 40 tokens to every session and 3,259 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
