ai-engineering-fluency: Skill for Claude Code

.claude/skills/validate-editor-names/SKILL.md

validate-editor-names is a skill for Claude Code from rajbos/ai-engineering-fluency. It costs 110 tokens per session (1,165 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A consistency check for the friendly editor names returned by the command-line tool and the VS Code extension. It also checks that each name has a matching icon in the web interface.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it after adding or changing editor detection, display names, or the web interface's editor icon list.
Why use it?
Different parts of the product can show different names or missing icons when their path mappings drift apart.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00110 $0.01165
Opus 5.5 $0.00044 $0.00466
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00022 $0.00233
Haiku 4.5 $0.00011 $0.00117

Security

Grade A, and why

validate-editor-names scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured yesterday.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Validate Editor Names Skill

Checks that the CLI and the VS Code extension always agree on editor display names, and that every name has an icon in the webview icon map.

There are three sources of truth that must stay in sync:

Source File Function / symbol
CLI path detector cli/src/analysis.ts getEditorSourceFromPath
VS Code path detector src/workspaceHelpers.ts getEditorTypeFromPath (delegates to detectToolEditorFromPath + detectVSCodeVariantFromPath)
Webview icon map src/editorIcons.ts EDITOR_ICON_MAP (the EditorName union type is derived from it in vscode-extension/src/webview/shared/formatUtils.ts)

The JetBrains plugin (and any future CLI-based consumer) gets its editor names exclusively from the CLI via CliBridge.kt. If the CLI returns a raw lowercase key instead of a friendly display name the UI falls back to the raw key everywhere: chart labels, the session list, the stats command.

What the script checks

  1. CLI-only coverage — every unique name returned by getEditorSourceFromPath exists in EDITOR_ICON_MAP.
  2. VS Code-only coverage — every unique name returned by getEditorTypeFromPath exists in EDITOR_ICON_MAP.
  3. Cross-function consistency — for a canonical set of test paths the CLI and VS Code detectors return identical names. Any mismatch is a bug.
  4. Ordering invariants — warns if a broad path pattern (e.g. /.copilot/) appears before a more specific one (e.g. /.copilot/jb/) in the CLI function, which would cause the broad check to shadow the specific one.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
