jetpack-ota-update

jetpack-ota-update is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from Seeed-Projects/Seeed-Jetson-DevelopTool. It costs 59 tokens per session (1,855 once invoked), scanned B, original, MIT.

A step-by-step guide for upgrading Jetson Linux from JetPack 5.1.3 to JetPack 6.0 on supported Seeed reComputer boards. JetPack is NVIDIA's software package for Jetson devices.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to download the required system files, select board-specific values, and perform the image-based upgrade on supported Orin Nano and Orin NX reComputer models.
Why use it?
It reduces the risk of using the wrong board settings or upgrade commands during a system update that requires a separate Ubuntu computer and USB connection.

Skill for Claude CodeCodex

Written for no agent in particular: nothing here depends on one.

Needs its repository: it runs a file that does not travel with it, so clone the repository first. The line is ./tools/kernel_flash/l4t_initrd_flash.sh \.

Install

Getting it into your agent

It runs from inside its repository, so the clone comes first — what it calls does not travel with the file alone.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00059 $0.01855
Opus 5 $0.00030 $0.00928
Sonnet 5 $0.00012 $0.00371
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00186

Measured 6d ago against content hash b386af32eb0c, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-06, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade B, and why

jetpack-ota-update scanned grade B with 2 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Asks for rootmediumPrivilege escalation

A mod that escalates privileges can change anything on the machine, not only the project.

JetPack Image-Based OTA Update (5.1.3 → 6.0)

Upgrade Jetson Linux from JetPack 5.1.3 to JetPack 6.0 using NVIDIA's image-based over-the-air update mechanism. Demonstrated on reComputer J3010.

Hardware: reComputer J4012/J4011/J3010/J3011, USB-C cable Software: Ubuntu 20.04 host PC, internet connection

Execution model

Run one phase at a time. After each phase:

  • If output contains [STOP] → stop immediately, consult the failure decision tree
  • If output ends with [OK] → tell the user "Phase N complete" and proceed

Board-specific variables must be set based on the Jetson module:

Module BOARDID BOARDSKU FAB BOARDREV CHIP_SKU
Orin Nano 4G 3767 0004 300 N.2 00:00:00:D6
Orin Nano 8G 3767 0003 300 N.2 00:00:00:D6
Orin NX 8G 3767 0001 300 M.3 00:00:00:D4
Orin NX 16G 3767 0000 300 G.3 00:00:00:D3

Phase 1 — download JP5.1.3 BSP (~10 min)

mkdir -p jp5 && cd jp5
wget https://developer.nvidia.com/downloads/embedded/l4t/r35_release_v5.0/release/jetson_linux_r35.5.0_aarch64.tbz2
wget https://developer.nvidia.com/downloads/embedded/l4t/r35_release_v5.0/release/tegra_linux_sample-root-filesystem_r35.5.0_aarch64.tbz2

[OK] when both files download successfully.

Phase 2 — build JP5.1.3 system image (~15 min)

tar xf jetson_linux_r35.5.0_aarch64.tbz2
sudo tar xpf tegra_linux_sample-root-filesystem_r35.5.0_aarch64.tbz2 -C Linux_for_Tegra/rootfs/
cd Linux_for_Tegra
sudo ./apply_binaries.sh

Generate the system image (replace variables per the table above):

sudo BOARDID=<BOARDID> BOARDSKU=<BOARDSKU> FAB=<FAB> BOARDREV=<BOARDREV> CHIP_SKU=<CHIP_SKU> \
  ./tools/kernel_flash/l4t_initrd_flash.sh \
  --external-device nvme0n1p1 \
  -c tools/kernel_flash/flash_l4t_nvme.xml \
  -p "-c bootloader/t186ref/cfg/flash_t234_qspi.xml --no-systemimg" \
  --no-flash --massflash 5 --network usb0 \
  jetson-orin-nano-devkit external

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

jetpack-ota-update is a skill published in the GitHub repository Seeed-Projects/Seeed-Jetson-DevelopTool (54 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 59 tokens to every session and 1,855 once invoked, about $0.0003 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it B with 2 findings (asks for root, makes network calls). No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-30.
