fracture-mechanics-workflow

fracture-mechanics-workflow is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from SFETNI/Deep-Matter-Chem-Skills. It costs 6 tokens per session (5,268 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A technical workflow for assessing cracked materials and components, including when a crack starts, grows safely, or causes sudden fracture. It connects hand calculations with computer-based engineering models.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to assess strength, damage initiation, crack initiation, stable crack growth, and unstable fracture with methods such as finite-element or crack-growth models.
Why use it?
It helps choose an analysis method that matches the event being studied, while making clear that codes, certified material data, inspections, and safety reviews are still required.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

Fable 5.1 $0.00006 $0.05268
Opus 5 $0.00003 $0.02634

Security

Grade A, and why

fracture-mechanics-workflow scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

Fracture Mechanics Workflow

Description

Select, construct, and validate fracture-mechanics assessments for cracked materials and components. The workflow distinguishes strength, damage, fracture initiation, stable crack propagation, and unstable fracture, then connects analytical LEFM checks with finite-element, elastic-plastic, cohesive-zone, phase-field, and XFEM models.

This skill supports research and engineering analysis. It does not replace applicable fitness-for-service codes, certified toughness data, inspection requirements, or safety review.

Domain Context

Fracture mechanics represents the effect of a crack or crack-like defect through crack-tip fields, energy measures, or regularized separation models. A model must state what event it predicts:

  • Strength or collapse: loss of load capacity without necessarily resolving a crack-growth process.
  • Damage initiation: onset of a constitutive degradation variable, interface separation, void process, or other model-specific event.
  • Fracture initiation: a measured or defined onset of crack extension under a specified test method.
  • Stable propagation: resistance may evolve with crack extension and geometry or constraint.
  • Instability: applied driving force exceeds the structure's resistance under the governing control mode.

Brittle fracture can often be represented by a relatively small fracture-process zone and an energy or toughness criterion. Ductile fracture generally involves substantial plasticity, void nucleation/growth/coalescence, tearing resistance, and constraint dependence. These labels are mechanism descriptions, not universal thresholds based only on elongation or temperature. [EXPERT REVIEW NEEDED]

Linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) requires linear-elastic response outside a crack-tip process zone that is small relative to crack size, remaining ligament, thickness, and other geometric dimensions. Elastic-plastic fracture mechanics (EPFM) uses measures such as J or CTOD when plasticity is not negligible but the selected parameter still characterizes the crack-tip state within its validity domain.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

fracture-mechanics-workflow is a skill published in the GitHub repository SFETNI/Deep-Matter-Chem-Skills (6 stars, last pushed 1mo ago), licensed MIT. It adds 6 tokens to every session and 5,268 once invoked, about $0.0000 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-08-31.
