prioritize

prioritize is a skill for Claude Code from tomzx/agents. It costs 30 tokens per session (457 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A backlog-ranking guide that scores and orders initiatives or features with RICE or WSJF. These are structured prioritization methods that make factors such as reach, impact, confidence, effort, delay cost, and job size visible.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to score backlog items, check dependencies, separate committed work from options, and update a Now/Next/Later roadmap.
Why use it?
It replaces unexplained ordering with a ranking that teams can inspect, challenge, and recalculate. It also makes dependencies and work that should be cut explicit.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00030 $0.00457
Opus 5 $0.00015 $0.00229
Sonnet 5 $0.00006 $0.00091
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00046

Measured 6d ago against content hash 8f5528f8f168, method: parsed. Prices are Anthropic first-party input rates as of 2026-09-10, from the pricing page.

Security

Grade A, and why

prioritize scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 6d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Prioritize

Scores and ranks work so sequencing is transparent and debatable rather than asserted. Uses RICE (Reach x Impact x Confidence / Effort) or WSJF (Cost of Delay / Job Size), recording the inputs so the ranking can be challenged and re-run when estimates change.

Prerequisites

  • Apply the shared PDLC conventions in skills/pdlc/references/shared.md.
  • roadmap.md and goals.md; a backlog of items to rank.

Steps

  1. Choose the framework. RICE suits discovery-stage ranking; WSJF suits time-critical sequencing where delay has a cost.
  2. For each item, estimate the framework's inputs explicitly (reach, impact, confidence, effort; or cost-of-delay and job size). Record the number and a one-line justification.
  3. Compute the score and rank.
  4. Sanity-check the ranking against strategic fit and dependencies. If the top item depends on a lower item, note the dependency and reorder.
  5. Separate "do" from "consider" vs. "cut": the cut list is as important as the do list. A backlog that never shrinks is not prioritized.
  6. Write a prioritized backlog to .pdlc/context/roadmap.md (updated Now/Next/Later) or to the initiative directory for initiative-scoped work.

Output Format

A ranked table with scores and input justifications, plus the explicit cut list. Update the roadmap's Now/Next/Later to reflect the ranking.

Outcome

If $OUTCOME_YAML is set, emit verdict: ranked.

Completion Checklist

  • Framework chosen and stated
  • Every scored item has its inputs recorded with a justification
  • Dependencies reflected in the final order
  • A cut list exists (items explicitly not doing)

Next Step

Run the Strategy gate via make-decision. On proceed, load write-prd to begin Define.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

prioritize is a skill published in the GitHub repository tomzx/agents (6 stars, last pushed yesterday), licensed MIT. It adds 30 tokens to every session and 457 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-03.
