talksmith:pptx-extract

A tool that reconstructs presentation Markdown from an edited PowerPoint file, including slide text, images, and an inventory of changes. It is part of a workflow for comparing and merging edits back into the original presentation content.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to extract content from an edited .pptx, stage its images, create finalpptx.md, and prepare the result for later diff and merge steps.
Why use it?
It brings changes made in PowerPoint or Keynote back into the presentation's source files instead of leaving them trapped in the exported deck.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5 $0.00091 $0.02185
Opus 5 $0.00046 $0.01092
Sonnet 5 $0.00018 $0.00437
Haiku 4.5 $0.00009 $0.00218

Security

Grade A, and why

talksmith:pptx-extract scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 3d ago.

The scan reads SKILL.md. This mod also ships 2 executable files (pptx_inventory.py, reconstruct_md.py), listed below but not scanned — reading those needs a real analyzer, not pattern matching.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

talksmith:pptx-extract — Rebuild the presentation Markdown from a deck

Talksmith's forward pipeline is one-directional: draft.mdfinal.mdtalks/<Talk>/output/final.pptx. When a presenter opens that deck in Keynote/PowerPoint and edits text or swaps/adds images, those edits live only in the .pptx. This skill reads the edited deck back into the canonical Markdown shape so the changes can be diffed (talksmith:pptx-diff) and merged into draft.md (talksmith:pptx-merge).

The caller does This skill does
Points at the edited .pptx + the active Talk + the render style Parses the deck, classifies slides, de-dups images, writes finalpptx.md + inventory
Refines the mechanical draft (resolves <!-- reconstruct: ... --> markers) Emits a conservative first pass; never invents Thesis/Sources

Reading a .pptx needs only python-pptx (a pip install), not the native pptx skill — so, unlike md-to-deck, which is Cowork-only because authoring a deck needs the native pptx skill, this skill is fully CLI-safe.

When to use

  • A presenter edited the generated deck externally and wants those edits pulled back into the Talk source.
  • Any time you need a Markdown view of what a .pptx actually contains, in draft.md shape.

Run this first in the reverse pipeline, then talksmith:pptx-diff, then talksmith:pptx-merge.

Inputs

Input Required? Notes
pptx yes Path to the edited deck, e.g. talks/<Talk>/output/final.pptx.
--talk yes Talk root, e.g. talks/<Talk>. Its images/ folder is the reference set for image de-duplication.
--style yes strict or free-formno default. Cover fingerprint, section-pill fill, and agenda dot colors are style-specific. strict supports full cover/agenda/divider classification; free-form only reliably identifies the cover (content grouping is flat — a warning is emitted).

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
