kernelcad-repair

kernelcad-repair is a skill for Claude Code, Codex from w1ne/kernelCAD-web. It costs 58 tokens per session (2,026 once invoked), scanned A, original, MIT.

A guided repair workflow for kernelCAD scripts when an evaluation reports an error or a feature has degraded.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it to explain a failed feature, preview repair patches, apply candidates one at a time, and re-evaluate after each change.
Why use it?
It shows the failure chain and permitted repair area, so you can inspect candidate changes instead of guessing and risking unrelated geometry changes.

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00058 $0.02026
Opus 5.5 $0.00023 $0.00810
Sonnet 5.5 $0.00012 $0.00405
Haiku 4.5 $0.00006 $0.00203

Security

Grade A, and why

kernelcad-repair scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 18d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

How it starts

The opening of the file, as written. The whole thing — 146 lines — stays where its author put it; the contents beside it link to each section on GitHub.

kernelCAD — trace-guided repair

evaluate_script tells you a feature broke. why_did_this_fail now also tells you which lines you may edit and what edits are on the table, and repair_script applies them and re-checks. Use this loop instead of re-reading the whole script and hand-authoring a guess — the guess is what regresses unrelated geometry.

The loop

  1. Evaluate. evaluate_script({ file }) → diagnostics + featureHealth. A non-empty featureHealth matters even when ok: true: it names features that silently degraded to a passthrough.
  2. Explain. why_did_this_fail({ file, feature_id }) → the upstream chain, the full trace, a repairRegion, and ordered candidates.
  3. Preview. repair_script({ file, diagnostic: <targetDiagnosticId>, strategy: 'dry-run' }) → every candidate patch as a diff, nothing evaluated, nothing applied. Read the diffs. If none is the fix you want, edit the region yourself.
  4. Apply. repair_script({ file, diagnostic: <id>, strategy: 'try-all' }) → applies candidates in order, re-evaluates after each, and keeps the first that clears the diagnostic without new errors.
  5. Persist and report. Write new_code back to the file, then state the change: the diagnostic, the candidate that cleared it, and the diff. Do not report "repaired" without naming what changed.

Repeat from step 1 while errors remain. Each pass targets ONE diagnostic.

Worked example: examples/repair/ has deliberately broken models (an oversized fillet, a hole anchored off its plate, a cutter placed away from its body, a revolve that crosses its axis, a tangent circle too small to sit outside two circles, a 90° draft, a shell thicker than the solid, an emboss parked over a hole) and a walkthrough that runs this exact loop on them: npx tsx examples/repair/run-repair-example.ts. Its README includes the captured output. lookup_cookbook({ query: 'repair failing fillet' }) returns the repaired fillet pattern.

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.

kernelcad-repair is a skill published in the GitHub repository w1ne/kernelCAD-web (31 stars, last pushed today), licensed MIT. It adds 58 tokens to every session and 2,026 once invoked, about $0.0002 per session on Opus 5.5. A static security scan graded it A with 0 findings. No closer match exists in the catalogue, so it is treated as the original; first seen 2026-09-15.
