A negotiation guide for setting an initial price and handling discounts or concessions as structured exchanges.

In plain words
What is it for?
Use it when quoting work, responding to discount requests, explaining volume pricing, calculating the cost of delay, or declining offers below your floor.
Why use it?

Token cost

What it costs to keep this loaded

Counted locally with the o200k_base tokenizer, which is exact for GPT models; Claude uses its own tokenizer and its counts differ. Treat this as one consistent yardstick across the catalogue rather than a bill. Prices are per million input tokens.

ModelPer sessionOnce invoked
Fable 5.1 $0.00026 $0.00341
Opus 5 $0.00013 $0.00170
Sonnet 5 $0.00005 $0.00068
Haiku 4.5 $0.00003 $0.00034

Security

Grade A, and why

price-anchor scanned grade A with 0 findings against 26 rules in 11 categories — prompt injection, anti-refusal, data exfiltration, privilege escalation, supply chain, agent snooping, system-prompt leakage, SSRF and excessive agency — measured 12d ago.

A static scan of the body, not an audit. Every finding is printed with the line that produced it so you can judge whether it matters here. A mod is markdown that instructs an agent; that is exactly why what it instructs is worth reading.

Nothing flagged

None of the 26 patterns this scan looks for appear in this file: no shell pipes, no recursive deletes, no credential paths, no hidden text, no instruction-override or anti-refusal phrasing, no agent-config snooping. That is not a guarantee, it is the absence of the things that are checkable.

What it actually says

Price Anchor

The Big Idea

The first number spoken steers the whole talk.

Cheap prices don't build trust. They ask "what's wrong with it?"

The Moves

  1. Say your number first. Flat voice. "$400. Your problem costs more than that every week." Then stop typing.

  2. Discounts get earned. Never squeezed. "At five or more, it drops to $200 each because we batch them." Now it's a plan they qualify for. Not a win they took from you.

  3. Every concession has a price. "I can do that if you confirm today." Free discounts teach people to squeeze forever.

  4. Do the math for them. People don't calculate. They feel. "Two lost customers a month pays for this in a week."

  5. Know your floor. Say no warmly below it. "That number doesn't work for what this takes." Deals under your floor come back as refunds and bad stories.

  6. Never say your price is cheap. In scam-heavy markets, cheap reads as fake.

When It Backfires

  • Big number with no proof nearby. Sounds like a dreamer. Show proof first, then the number.
  • Copying a competitor's low price. You lose money AND respect.
  • Explaining your costs. Explain their gain instead.

One-Line Memory

Don't defend the number. Defend the story around it.

Changes

What this file has done since we first saw it

Hashed on every crawl. A supply-chain change to an agent config is a question of when, not whether, so the history is kept rather than the latest state alone.
